[Myanmar] Burma’S Cheap Sim Cards Now Available—In Short Supply

A highly anticipated supply of cheap cellphone SIM cards are now being sold in Burma through a lottery program in some townships, Eleven Myanmar reported Monday. Townships have each received a monthly supply of 300,000 SIM cards, which cost as little as 1,500 kyat (US $2), and interested buyers can purchase the cards if selected in a public drawing. The lottery system is already attracting criticism, according to the news agency, with local residents filing complaints of unfair awards to relatives of township administrators. Some have called for private companies to take over the sales.
