[Myanmar] Address Ethnic Violence, Australia’S Foreign Minister Urges Burma

Featured Replies

Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr has urged President Thein Sein to address the ethnic conflicts afflicting Burma, the Australian Associated Press reported. His comments came in the wake of an EU decision to permanently lift sanctions on Burma, a move the foreign minister praised and had lobbied for. “These are deep-seated conflicts and I welcome President Thein Sein’s commitment to hold an investigation into recent violence,†Carr said in a statement, according to AAP. “Promoting and, where necessary, having robust discussions about human rights and democracy in Myanmar [burma] will remain a central element of our engagement.â€
