Crime Samut Sakhon Immigration Busts Myanmar Drug and Arms Syndicate Boss
Picture courtesy of Naewna. A notorious Myanmar national, known among migrant workers by the alias “Ao Union,” has been arrested in Samut Sakhon for allegedly trafficking drugs and illegal firearms, while exerting mafia-style influence over local migrant communities. The arrest was part of an ongoing crackdown on foreign criminal networks, led by Pol. Col. Pokchat Chaisukawat, Superintendent of Samut Sakhon Immigration Bureau. Under orders from Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumart Boonyalak, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, a joint task force led by Pol. Lt. Col. Setthaphong Chumuang and Pol. Capt. Jirayu Choedchai raided a commercial building in Soi Thai Union, Moo 7, Tha Sai Subdistrict, Mueang District. The operation resulted in the arrest of a Myanmar national identified only as Mr. Chan. Police seized one homemade firearm, ammunition and an undisclosed quantity of methamphetamine. Investigators revealed that Mr. Chan had become a dominant figure among foreign labourers in the area, distributing narcotics and cultivating fear to secure his position of power. His influence reportedly earned him the nickname “Ao Union”, a reference to the neighbourhood where he operated. Mr. Chan now faces multiple charges, including: 1. Illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition 2. Illegal possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) 3. Overstaying his visa and remaining in the kingdom unlawfully He has been handed over to investigators at Mueang Samut Sakhon Police Station for legal proceedings. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to rooting out criminal elements among the foreign population, especially those involved in drugs and weapons trafficking, warning that all violators will face full prosecution under the law.
