Short answer. I do not really know.

I do know you can get a bus from CR town bus station to the turnoff.

I have seen songtaus waiting at the trunoff corner every time I have been there.

It would be a long walk from the turnoffl The univesities run shuttles with an electric bus in the uni but I do not know if they go to the corner.

In term time there are probably more ofptions than holidays.

you can catch the big green bus, or the small green minibus. the will say chiang rai-mae sai. They run every half hour or so, and it can take up to 30 minutes to get to the university. it all depends. If there aren't many people on the bus at first, sometimes they will wait longer until it leaves. If you have to be there at a certain time then I would suggest taking a taxi, or giving yourself plenty of time. I think the bus costs around 20-25 baht. You can also flag down a sawng taeo (i think they're the red ones). Either way, just tell the driver you want to get off at Mae Fah Luang. At the bottom of the entrance road to the university you can catch another sawng taeo, (green colour i think) 10 baht. There are many different buildings that it can drop you off at so you might want to know where it is you need to go. Campus is quite large.

Do you know the way to San Jose? ......oh sorry, off-topic.

Yes you head north to MFL in the way said. After a pleasant day there you proceed to Tachalic cross the boarder and travel onwards to the Chinese Border. With your Chinese visa in hand you cross that. After a great time eating endangered species you can catch a plane to the USA where ask again if anyone can understand you how to get to San Jose.
