13 Thais charged for cheating Marina Bay Sands casino

SINGAPORE: -- Another six Thai men were charged on Monday with cheating the Marina Bay Sands casino of nearly $1.2 million.

On Saturday, eight alleged accomplices, comprising four men and four women, were charged. Seven were Thai nationals while one was a Laotian man.

The 14 of them, aged between 23 and 50 years old, are said to have colluded to win cash chips worth $1.2 million while playing baccarat at the casino on May 7 from 2.50am to 6am. They apparently devised a fraudulent scheme in which they knew the sequence of the cards in advance.

All 14 are remanded for further investigations. The eight foreigners charged earlier will return to court on Friday while the case against the latest six in the dock will be mentioned again next Monday.

there was another similar story in the UK last week, where they refused to pay out a guy 7 million,

it turned out he could read the cards as on the back they had small prints not seen to the naked eye which had details of the card

maybe part of the same scam? , but then the question of how the cards got into the place?,.... they are not reviling much

Sadly, they never will. I would assume one of the people arrested was a dealer and possibly another inside person or two.

Is there more than one casino? I'd like to think it was because I looked too young but I was wearing a suit and see no reason why I should have been refused. But there were literally thousands of us attending this expo all wandering around with our badges.. it may be a case of they didn't want the low spenders in there, which could be justified as I certainly wasn't going to blow much more than 100 SGD and wanted to visit more out of intrigue than determination.

I dont think its related. By the way the flawed cards were visible to the naked eye. He didnt use any device to look at the cards. Good on him i say. If a casino is dumb enough to play flawed decks then the players have every right to use that to their advantage while they can.

You were probably trying to enter through the wrong entrance. There are separate entrances for foreigners and Singaporean residents.

Singaporeans and PR are actually the only people with specific casino rules imposed on them by the government such has having to pay a Casino entry levy of $100.

There are no restrictions on other nationalities. If you were refused entry it may have been because you did not have a PP with you?

It's expensive there for the opportunity to lose money in a casino, but then again I read recently that one out of every six Singaporeans is a millionaire in USD terms.

"The daily entry levy is $100, and is valid for 24 consecutive hours starting from the time of first entry into the casino. The daily entry levy will expire if entry has not taken place by the end of the 30th day after the date of purchase. During the permitted 24 hours you may enter and exit the casino freely. Hard to believe that 13 Thais and a Lao could "mastermind" and pull off such a caper at the baccarat tables. It is surprising that we are even reading about this and that the casino operator didn't just break their legs in the back room prior to cashing out. More information about this would be very interesting.
