NISA seems OK for learning beginner and intermediate level Thai but no program or teaching material available for advanced course (just cut out from newspapers). I've taken both private and group lessons there but stopped going there as most of the good teachers seem to be tutoring students outside in the office/homes and hardly at school. Quality of the lesson really depend on the teacher but I don't know any other schools so I can't really compare but doesn't seem to me like a school for serious students who wants to study all the way up to advanced level and pass Poh 6. Most teachers there seem to be teaching for over ten years though. I've learned how to read and write Thai at NISA.

The lack of study material in the transition from intermediate to advanced has been a problem for many years, and I do not know of any Thai course that offers sufficiently professional and pedagogical material there.

They do a 10 week course, 3 hours every morning, five days a week, from 9 to 12. The classes are in groups of 2 or 3 or you could be on your own. You can do reading and writing as part of this if you like or just spoken if you like. It's excellent value for money and if your a beginner, it's probably the minimum amount of lessons you'd need to get speaking and comprehending. If you practice your reading and writing on your own outside of class a lot you might be able to read independently at the end of the course too. The books aren't bad. The phonetic Roman letter writing system they use is fine and easy to read. The teachers are as good as you get in Thailand (not great) and they're generally pretty friendly.
