Does (the latest version of) Java is safe?

Currently, the latest version is Java Runtime Environment 1.7.0.21.

The best practice would be to uninstall Java, but if it necessary you should disable the browser plugin and enable only when needed. It will only be a matter of time before the exploits appear.

I have Java installed - the latest version.

I have the plug-in in my Firefox browser.

I use MSE antivirus and Comodo firewall.

I can't remember when I last had a problem with a virus or malware - at least 8 years.

Most of my problems come with Microsoft Windows updates and installing programs that quietly change your default search engine. sad.png

I uninstalled Java some time ago when security problems were reported.

I have not noticed any detrimental effect by not having Java installed.

Never had a warning that something won't run because Java is not present

There are now very, very few websites that use Java. To be honest, I can't remember the last time I came across one. You're very unlikely to experience any problems with Java uninstalled, which is the safest option.

Note: Java and Javascript, despite the similar names, are totally different technologies. Many (probably most) websites do require Javascript to be enabled. Javascript is not affected by the persistent security problems with Java.
