Buying A Mobile In Thailand

Just wondered what the situation was in Thailand with regards to mobile phones. I read that the majority of people using a phone, have mobiles rather than land lines, so presumably it's relatively cheap. Are they usually pay as you go, or contract.

I will be in and out of Thailand while I have projects in the UK. If I have a Thai mobile can they be used abroad, and if so can i use it abroad on both P.A.Y.G and contract.

I know I could stay with my current contract and the roaming option, but I don’t want to do that.

Many apol's if this has been covered but i couldn't find it in the search facility.

Thanks again folks

out of curosity how much did you pay for the sim on EBAY?

SIM are avaiable in Thailand at MBK shopping mall.

Most phones bought in Thailand and Uk can be used in both countries but not US as they have different standards.

Even if your UK phone is locked to a contract it can be unlocked for as little as 100 Baht in MBK.

SIMs can be switched in Unlocked mobiles as often as you wish.

Hope this helps

anyother questions just come back here

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?c...land&category0=

big business for some it seems

WOW It costs more to ship than it does to buy the SIM and there is 25% of the cost in phone calls.

Maybe I need to start.

But the problem is the numbers will soon be registered to people and if it is not registered it will be chopped

They have set one deadline but that has passed expect the next deadline sometime after all TIT :o

Hi.. I have a question! If it's off the topic, I am sorry..

I have this siemens MC50 that was used in Germany. And, when I try to switch the SIM card here in thailand.. It says "Phone disabled! SUBSET Code" and can't use. So, is the phone locked? And, how do I unlocked?

Thanks

Sounds locked - if thailand has the same model perhaps they could unlock it for you. Any telecom shop, normally re-rom the handy. If not you'll have to buy a new or nused one. :o
