Popular Post kblaze
Terribly, terribly misleading sub-headline. Selective quoting AT ITS WORST "The president admitted power and fame can 'dim your vision' He was speaking at a 100K bike ride attended by several injured veteransAdded he doesn't 'feel sorry for them' and that they were 'volunteers' in war" The underlined part; COMPLETELY taken out of context. Look at the unedited full text; "Asked if he felt responsible for their injuries, Mr Bush said: ‘Well, to a certain extent you can’t help it, because had I not made decisions I made, they wouldn’t have been in combat. ‘On the other hand, every one of these men were volunteers. None of them are angry. They don’t blame anybody. And so I believe strongly that the decisions I made were the right decisions.’ He added: ‘I don’t feel sorry for them, because they don’t feel sorry for themselves.’" He didn't just "add" those statements to his speech without reason. He was asked if he felt responsible for their injuries. Of course he is going to say no! No president, doesn't matter how big a mistake the war was, is going to take personal responsibility for every injury of every soldier, thats crazy-talk. And actually, he prefaces that statements by saying that "to a certain extent you cant help it...if it werent for the decisions i made...they wouldn't be in combat". That sounds like he is at least partly owning up to it. And then they cut his full sentence "I dont feel sorry for them...because they don't feel sorry for themselves" to just "I dont feel sorry for them". That's a huge difference!! Doesn't matter what your view of Bush is; selective quoting is reprehensible. Edited June 4, 2013 by kblaze
