webfact Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Spanish tourists 'beat up security guards' in PhuketNaraporn TuarobPHUKET:-- Police in Karon today arrested a Spanish couple and charged them with beating up the security guards at their hotel, the Golden Sand Inn in the early hours of this morning (June 4)Police said the couple, David Antolin Velasco, 35, and Maria Carmen, 33, were sitting on the beach close to the hotel at 4:30 am. They left a bag containing their valuables on the seat of the motorbike they had rented.Duty officer Pol Lt Charnnarong Prakonggue told The Phuket News, that when they decided to go back to the hotel they found out that the bag had disappeared.“They suspected the thief was a ladyboy they had seen walking around in the area,” he said.“They had also seen the ladyboy talking with the hotels’ security guards before, so they formed the suspicion that the guards were in league with the ladyboy. So they attacked the two guards. One guard, he said, was hit over the head with a rock and required 12 stitches while the other suffered bruising and scratches on his body.“We received a call from the hotel receptionist but by the time we got there the couple had already left.”Five minutes later they returned. The security guards recognised them as the people who had attacked them, so they were arrested.“After questioning, the couple admitted that they attacked the security guards because they thought they were in league with the ladyboy. The two guards denied this was the case. They said that the ladyboy was trying to sell them her services – which they declined.”Police showed Velasco and Carmen photos of ladyboys with criminal records but the couple recognised none of them, so the police will be searching for a suspect to fit the couple’s description. The police then charged them both with physical assault and locked them in separate holding cells.Mr Velasco was unhappy with this and showed his objections by smashing chunks off the wall of the cell and cracking the door frame. He was charged with damaging police property. The couple’s passports were later found discarded some 200 metres away from the theft scene, but their bag and the rest of the valuables are still missing. The couple appeared in court this morning and admitted the charges. They are currently still in custody because – with their belongings having been stolen – they do not have the funds to make bail.Source: http://www.thephuketnews.com/spanish-tourists-%E0%B9%82%E2%82%AC%C2%98beat-up-security-guards%E0%B9%82%E2%82%AC%C2%99-in-phuket-39898.php-- Phuket News 2013-06-04

steelepulse Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 What a load of rubbish that the ladyboy tried to sell his services to lowly paid security guards. After reading the other story it's more likely the ladyboy told the guards that these Spaniards were after him ( of course omitting that he pinched the Spaniards valuables). 1
bearpolar Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 you people dont seem to understand that since the bike was in front of the guard he would have seen the thief and should of stopped the robbery. At least thats what a sane tourist would think. 1
johnlandy Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 hmmmm, usually the other way round....lol you people dont seem to understand that since the bike was in front of the guard he would have seen the thief and should of stopped the robbery. At least thats what a sane tourist would think. At least that's what a sane tourist would think. and, that is what an intelligent copper would have also have thought. OH 'stupid me' intelligent copper! I was forgetting where I was. Yes, and so, it seems there was some justification for them (the tourists) to be pi$$ed of. And then again, the security could well have been involved in it as well. And nice to see the boot on the other foot for a change 2

Ace of Pop Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Odd time of Year for Spanish to come here. Plenty of Foriegners to attack back home, when they get bored with stabbing Bulls. 1

BookMan Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Doesn't that make you go blind ? Ahhh! That explains it now.
Businessman Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I do feel sorry for the loss the tourist experienced. I feel sorry for the guards who were beaten. But I just gotta laugh that two "professional" guards can get the beaten by a girl and a guy. If they cannot defend themselves how are they to defend property and guests? Makes me think how intimidated I am by the stickman guards I see here. In other countries security guards are usually big gorillas or trained in self-defence or something. Here it seems that if you are under 45kg, emancipated, and can wear clothes that are too big for your frame, and click your heals together, you qualify. Just kinda comical when I think about it all. 2

I thought physical assault was a 500 baht fine? Wasn't that what a tuk tuk driver was fined not long ago after beating some tourist?
Popular Post ImNotaGuiri Posted June 5, 2013 Popular Post Posted June 5, 2013 Odd time of Year for Spanish to come here. Plenty of Foriegners to attack back home, when they get bored with stabbing Bulls. You should know that the majority of the Spaniard population dislikes the subject of bullfighting. Only residues of fascism in Spain they like, but of course, they are the ruling class… It would be the same as saying that all Italians are gangsters, or that all Israelis are murderers of Palestinian children, or that all Americans are killing people around the world. You should also know, that in a province already achieved ban bullfighting, but of course now French tourists are outraged by not being able to travel to that province to "enjoy" bullfighting. There is garbage all over the world, man… there is nowhere to run 5
roiethome Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 What sane person would leave valuables on the seat of a bike in the early hours of the morning - it takes just seconds to snatch a bag and make off into the night. The couple got their just deserts and hope they never come back to these shores after taking out their anger on the first people they saw.
Lancelot Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 hmmmm, usually the other way round....lolPretty slick, claim the evil farang "hit" Thai people, then demand compensation for victim (Thai.) Victim is compensated, cops receive a thank you payment for assistance and every one is happy- except the tourist.. Oh well, another one comes along every micro second. Tourist, a nenewable resource 1
