Suspect re-enacts robbery, murder of Oishi promoter

BANGKOK: -- A 26-year-old man accused of killing Oishi product-presenter contestant Pornpan Phromjan during an attempted car-jacking on Monday night, and of dumping her body at a Nonthaburi motel, was escorted through a re-enactment of the crime yesterday morning by police.

Thassanai Saengsri reportedly followed the 23-year-old victim from a Bang Kapi shopping mall before entering the victim's car through the rear door as she got inside. He allegedly held her at knifepoint in an attempt to rob her. However, the young woman fought back, so Thassanai allegedly stabbed her in the throat, moved her body on to the front passenger seat and drove away.

Police said he later dumped the victim's body in a motel room and tried to flee in the car, but it failed to start so he hailed a taxi to escape. Motel workers spotted bloodstains and alerted police, leading to Thassanai's arrest.

Thassanai reportedly told police he saw the woman wearing a gold necklace and expensive watch and talking on her phone while walking to the car park, and decided to rob her, as he was in debt. He reportedly said this was his first crime and that he intended only to rob the victim, not sexually assault or kill her, and that he wanted to apologise to the victim's family.

Pornpan's elder sister Savitree Phromjan and a group of the victim's friends picked up Pornpan's body from the Police General Hospital morgue, saying she and her family were still in shock. She said her sister often stopped by The Mall Bang Kapi after work but for convenience' sake would park in a more isolated lot opposite the mall.

The family planned to host Pornpan's funeral at Wat Sa Bua Thong in her home town of Nong Bua Lamphu.

To prevent crimes, police urged people to park in well-lit areas, make sure they were not being followed and lock their cars upon getting into them.

Very sad.

The suspect said he had no intention of killing her. As soon as you put a knife to someone's throat, you have every intention of killing them if you don't get your own way.

Not true!

True or not - if you put a knife to someone's throat, don't claim you didn't mean it after you've killed them.

A knife to the throat means you're more liekly you'll get what you want. This also means a higher risk of injury or death.

In debt, so he decides to rob someone because they are wearing gold and an expensive looking watch. In debt, get a job and stop gambling, drinking, taking drugs or whatever else it was that led to him being in debt. Being in debt is no excuse for robbing and killing a person.

The way these killers so easily walk the piolice through the crime amazes me.

Maybe If Thailand would put some bite into there law for murder and stop granting parole to killers after a short time or letting them wander around the country side People would take it a bit more serious.

As is you are almost better off to kill some one than to try and sell an ounce of marijuana.
