White mask anti-government protest to be staged in Phuket
Naraporn Tuarob

PHUKET: -- Opponents of the government are to stage a “white mask” protest on Sunday (June 9) at around 5pm at Saphan Hin.

Thailand’s white mask movement features protestors wearing Guy Fawkes masks, as seen in anti-government protests in major cities around the world following the global financial crisis of 2008.

One of the organisers of the protest, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Phuket News today, “Actually, we were planning to stage the protest tomorrow (June 6), but we decided to move it to Sunday because more people will be free to join.

“We are individual groups who are fed up with the way the country is being run under this cabinet. What [Deputy Prime Minister] Plodprasop [suraswadi] said on Sunday about Phuket was just the final straw.

“It will be a non-violent protest. We just want to send a message from Phuket to the government.”

It will be a non-violent protest.

That'll make a nice change for a Sunday night at Saphan Hin. I hope they tell the Thai yobbo bike gangs to stay away.
