Prof, would you take on that bet then?

I'm serious, I'd bet at even odds that England won't get to the semis.

poor odds, theres much better value to be found online

The Green Wanderer's prediction for 2006 FIFA World Cup:

The German fields are Nana Plaza, and USA is a lonely business man looking to score!

England, Italy, Germany, and Brazil won't succeed, not even if she was a Wh#re

It's gonna be a bigger upset that will go down in the books

Like when USA beat England in 1950 and Portugal in 2002

Gonna steal that cup away just like a skilled crook

More shocking than Uraguay's conquest 76 years ago too!

:D

I'll bet 10,000....

Don't know if the games will be live but I assume the most important games will be.

Here's a list of the times they're playing (London time) just add 6 hours for Thailand.

I think free to air Channel 9 & SBS are co-broadcasting all the games again like in 2002. From what I remember of France 98, the games will be on late night to early morning , Sydney time.

Germany is definately not going to win it. Anyone saw their latest friendlies? They got hammered by the italians and did very poor against other countries. Home advantage doesnt mean anything if you got a team thats on the same level as I dunno togo, trinidad&tobago. Even the germans themself dont have much confidence (only 3% of the germans thinks that they are going to win the WC).

I'd put your money on one of the other big countries. Especially on Italy or Brazil. Ofcourse I'll look like a fool when they do win

Thats why there are called friendlies, good teams sometimes dont put out there strongest side against lesser teams in friendly matches as its a chance to experiment with younger players. Thats how you learn to introduce talanted young players into the natioanl squad. Friendlies mean nothing.

Most people know this.

I reckon it will be a Germany-Brazil final with Brazil taking the win...

England will get knocked out in the semis :o

(edit...England will get knocked out in the semis ONLY if Mr Rooney is playing for the complete contest, if he pics up an injury before or during we are DOOMED, who can replace that talent?)

I think this is England's year. Brazil are pure class, but I suspect they're a bit brittle and, perhaps, over confident. Germany are yesterday's men. I never rule out Italy and the Dutch look good always.

But something in my water makes me feel this is England's best chance. The fact that Sven has been fired even before it starts reinforces that view - a great story all round.

Can't wait for it. People talk about the Olympics being the biggest sporting event in the world. My ARSE!

Posted

As much as I'd like England to win, I think Sven is way too conservative in his approach, and lacks the basic enthousiasm to create the right synergy and a truly winning spirit.

I would love it if he just picked the people who are truly in-form, not relying on old glory (Becks) just for the sake of continuity.

Still, they could do very well, they could also lose to Australia. :o (Which I also wouldn't mind.. overall I'd like the best team on the day to win.)

It's hard to pick a final without knowing the schedule as it's possible/likely that the 'best' two teams will meet before the final.

So........... Italy vs Brazil. (yawn)

Cheers,

Chanchao

The Germans have the problem of all hosts, they don't have to qualify so they get no 'competitive' matches for the year or so before the tournament. The squad is currently beset by infighting between members of the German FA regarding coach Klinsmann and a fresh 'betting scandal' continues to rumble in the background. Germany is also suffering because the "talented young players" that are currently in the squad are really all they have got. A recent injury to Seb Deisler has ruled out one of the few experienced players they had, the experienced but ageing Olie Kahn is by no means certain to be in goal and that leaves Ballack as the only "world class" player in the German squad. Defence is very young (all early 20's) with no natural leader, Midfield will depend on Ballack and strikers Klose and Poddolski are far from proven at international level.

History says that Germany will make some progress in the Cup but surely cannot win it.

Fair comments but even if Olie Kahn doesnt get into the side they still have hans laymen who IMO is an outstanding keeper ( Much better than robinson or james ). Don't know anything about a 'betting scandal' although i would like to know more.

I agree apart from either goal keeper and ballack they do not really have the world class players as a team like england or brazil do but they can defend well at times and Oliver Neuville can still score goals.

They shouldn't be under estimated.

Final :

28' Zidane head . France 1 - Brazil 0

46 ' Henry do a rush after a kick from Viera (kick and rush) France 2 - Brazil still 0

83' Zidane 'the maestro' put the ball righ on Trezeguet feet who were in the penalty spot. France 3 - Brazil 0. As Roberto Carlos complain about an eventual off side, he got a red cart and directly go to dance a samba.

92' Zidane 'the marvellous' as Zorro definitively put his sign (spell?) on the game and from a free kick do the fourth goal.

France 4, Brazil 0 , better than in 1998 it is not?

Remenber Euro 2000? 5 minutes before then of the normal time : Italy 1 France 0.

What was the result that day? 2 - 1 for France if I am not confuse/slipping?

God spoked to Zidane (he claim so) and told him he have to be back to win something before to retire (for sure not with the real, too much english there to have some results). So Allah Akbar!!!! (if they really win, I will sceam that next mass lol).

France = Coupet + Barthez, Zidane, Henry, Trezegoal, + some world class players (Cisse for exemple, Viera for exemple ...) So if they have baraka, they should win or at least reach the final game.

oooooooooops I forgot, there is also another player who met God recently, the defender from Martinique, the one who have never shoot a goal, but 2 in same match in 1998 (vs Croatia). I forgot his name, I thik he is plaing in the 'Juve'. World class player also.

Yeah true friendly doesnt always mean anything. But I'm pretty sure Klinsman put up a real german team he would also use in the WC and didnt test with formations/players/tactics. Theres a reason why its a pretty big crisis in germany. Almost every paper is writing about it. Klinsman even had to answer for it infront of the german prime minister. It says alot that only 3% of the population believes they are going to be world champions. Come on ask any italian, english, french or dutch person how much faith they have in their team.

Same goes for France too, although not as bad as germany. They really struggled in the qualifiers in one of the easiest groups. Both of these countries are living from their reputation they got from the past.

Germany scraped there way through to the final in 2002 and were poor all the way. Never write off the Germans.

I think the winner though, will be either France, Brazil or hopefully England. If I had to pick one of them three, England.

The script is set for England, what would be better than winning the World Cup in Germany?

There going to do it for me anyway because this is MY year, come on lads!!!!
