Important Election News - Booze Banned In Phuket

Featured Replies

In what is probably the most important and relevant election news for foreign residents of Phuket it has been announced that alcohol will be banned this weekend. No alcohol will be allowed to be sold before and during the election period, said Wisut Romin, Deputy Chief of Phuket Administration and Justice Enhancement Group.

All kinds of alcoholic beverages are prohibited from sale. Entertainment venues will still be allowed to open but the selling of alcohol will not be permitted. The ban will be in force from 6pm on April 1 to 6pm on April 2. Anyone found selling alcohol will be arrested under section 112 of the Election act. The maximum penalty is six months imprisonment, a 10,000 baht fine or both.

I am stocking up tonight.

On a side note would people please stop buying out all the good beer in Tops at Central Festival. I am fed up of drinking Leo and too cheap to buy imported beer.

Just for the record,Phuket is not being singled out, the ban is nation wide.

On the subject of booze, has anyone tried the "new" Singha Light. I bought a can yesterday and to say that it tastes like cats pee would be a lie. Its totally tasteless and a total waste of time. The can however is quite pretty :o

This is not "breaking news". Alcohol is banned during all voting periods in Thailand. Has been for years as far as I know.

YES! I bought one can knowing that it would bite. It is like they took a bottle of Singha and thought of ways to make it worse. And it is only 3.5%. I agree that Boon Rawd make pretty bottles and cans though.

It is getting harder and harder to drink in this country. the Midday ban, the election bans, the religous day bans. Not to mention the fact that 90% of the beer sucks.....

I don't appear to have a problem. However, I have to go and see the doctor this afternoon. :o
