Government faces impeachment over water management project

BANGKOK: -- The government is facing an impeachment motion filed by opposition MPs over the controversial Bt350billion water-management modules.

Backed by at least one fourth of MPs, the impeachment targets all members in Yingluck Shinawatra's second Cabinet lineup.

"There are grounds to believe that the Cabinet has engaged in corruption and violated five laws as well as the Constitution," opposition chief whip Jurin Laksanawitsit said.

The Democrat Party submitted the impeachment motion to the Senate president today..

The impeachment threat is another blow to the government and its mega modules. Last month, the Central Administrative Court ruled that the modules must be put on hold until their preparations comply fully with applicable laws. The Constitution, for example, requires public participation, environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and health impact assessments (HIAs) for projects with the potential to cause serious impacts on people, their health and their environment.

When is he going to do it he is going for a trip with her this week to Poland and Turkey?

They may not have to worry about it though.

I see from another source that the new Natural Resources and Environment Minister is putting the amending of "outdated natural protection laws" at the top of his agenda.

Presume that means getting rid of or changing the laws that require EIA's and HIA's that are causing so much of a hold up.

If it's delegation I'm sure Phongthep Thepkanjana will delegate further down the line, and so on, until the entire focus has been lost and forgotten about, as surely a new attack will be made by the opposition.

Just when is this 'stupid' government going to realise that the Democrat's are far more clever than they are and that they are not going to let them steam-roller things through without transparency and from adhering firmly to the current constitutional laws.

They seem to want to do everything by Pheu Thai rules and not those draughted by annoying law makers that just make things difficult for them.

Checks and balances are 'dirty words' to this government - even if they are there to make sure that things are done properly in an orderly fashion and designed to protect the people!!!
