Urgent call for A- blood
The Phuket News

PHUKET: -- Vachira Phuket Hospital has put out an urgent call for Group A Rhesus negative (A-) blood.

The call came after expatriate Marc Joseph, 66, was brought to the hospital after suffering a stroke. Brain surgery will be necessary, the hospital explained, but before it can be carried out, sufficient stocks of blood of Mr Joseph’s type – A negative – need to be assured.

Anyone wishing to donate blood should contact Mrs Ampai Saengwikit, 076-365-324 extension 1285.

Call for A- blood after Brit expat suffers motorbike crash head injury
Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- The Phuket blood bank at Vachira Phuket Hospital is calling for donations of A- blood following an operation on British national Marc Harrington yesterday.

Mr Harrington, 66, was admitted to hospital for a head injury sustained in a motorbike accident in Phuket on June 22.

“He underwent an operation yesterday, in which we needed to use A- blood. He is showing limited responses to stimuli and he is on assisted breathing,” a nurse at Vachira Hospital’s Neurosurgical Procedures Department confirmed.

“He had low thrombocytopenia, a low platelet count. He used to have a count of 7,000, but he is much better now with a count of about 90,000,” she added.

“We still have two units of A- blood in the bank, but it would be prudent to have more in stock, for Mr Harrington or anyone else who may need it,” the nurse said.
