Woman jumps from Sarasin Bridge, north of Phuket

PHUKET: A woman from Phang Nga tried to commit suicide last night around 10pm (July 12) by jumping off Sarasin Bridge, the bridge connecting Phuket to Phang Nga.

Locals reported to police that they saw someone jump from the bridge, so police went to the area to search. Around midnight fisherman found her body floating on the surface of the water, but she was alive. She was identified as Nisaphat Phetkhao, 43, a Phang Nga local.

Police found her abandoned Honda car on the side of the bridge – inside was her handbag containing a goodbye letter.

Miss Nisaphat was taken to Takua Pa Hospital.

The Sarasin Bridge has a sad association with romantic suicide after a young couple tied themselves together and jumped from it after their parents forbade them to see each other.

That was in the 1960s, and the suicide sparked a hit song and later a well-known film. Because of this, Thai tourists often make a point of visiting the bridge when in Phuket.

Since then there have been a number of suicides from jumping off the bridge. In 2002 two deaf-mute women jumped together; one survived. In 2005 a Phuket women died after jumping into the strait below.

If people really want to commit suicide, why jump off this bridge? Its not that high from the water...

Especially after having driven there in a car,one can simply connect a hose to the exhaust.

Perhaps 'one' could cite one instance whereby a Thai National committed suicide by hose/exhaust? Notwithstanding the stupidity of the rest of your posts (I was going to use the word 'thrust' but then remembered what forum I was on), implying a 'wasted journey').

BTW, see this post garnered just 4 posts whereby a post I have no interest in reading has 17 views to date (it'll be much more by tomorrow and this item will be forgotten).

Maybe for this reason......
