OK, it is just an idea. So shoot me down, my idea I mean, if you don't like it or it has been done, or it has been contemplated or discussed.

We all know that collaborative works of fiction, no matter how thinly veiled, are produced almost everywhere and also are a matter of intense academic interest.

So, I wanna know, how could one be started here. My sincere apologies to everyone if this has already been attempted and aborted, or if no one in Thailand has any interest.

Naturally, I would not be one to contribute to such a work of art, but there are a few here who actually can write a little, for example that guy with the W.C Fields Avatar who tries to tell us he lives in Chiang Mai of all places.

Those who do not contribute written copy directly could shout encouragement and suggestions from the peanut gallery, if they were constructive, but I dunno about this either, this might be counterproductive. This can be debated, too.

This is just a preliminary feeler I thought to put out to sort of test the mood of the forum and to stick the toe in the water to see if it is hot, or not.

If you do not like the idea, then do not kill the messenger.

If I do not get even one comment in response, this is still OK, no harm done. I never expect anything when I come to the Farang Pub.

But if even one of us is interested, then what would need to be done on this thread to actually start a collaborative fiction of say, oh.............250,000, no make that 25,000, or maybe 10,000 words to start?

The subject, naturally, would need to be something that would not always require a great deal of Moderation, so maybe it could be about Burma of all places?, I do not know.

But what are your suggestions? Including suggestions for any software that would be needed to actually compose and edit this upcoming artistic fiasco? Or is the existing very good TVF software already very good enough for collaborative writing projects?

If it should be sold, then what about for charity, or to send a worthy member around the world? I dunno about this, so I am just asking.

I am all ears.

Could you use Google Docs for the collaborative part??? Not sure I'd open it up to everybody, but possibly be restricted to authorized uses only? Just a thought.

Google docs is a great resource, very stable and well thought out.

Stay away from Microsoft cloud offerings please, if possible.

Microsoft is not "global" enough, for my tastes anyway.

Also, Google Docs may be more secure, re privacy.

Judging from their pull out from China years ago over privacy issues, as well as other issues. But pls do not sidetrack to that subject!

If anyone does not have objections, probably you should choose something like Google Docs.

Collaborative software choices are many and growing rapidly. So maybe a different choice would be better?

For Starters Only --- What is Collaborative Writing, How is it Done, Strategies

I have not much experience with collaborative writing. But in every field these days, including Science particularly, this is the next big thing, I think.

I do not know much, so this is why, IF we are to take all the above seriously, then a place to start is by reading (or rereading) these two Wiki entries which help to clue in any newbies, and is a refresher, with good links, for writers who have been collaborating since there were laws on the books, not talking about the Bible, per se.

I do not know whether or not some sort of fine fiction might be constructed or assembled by the men and women of the Farang Pub.

Since I have not yet heard from anyone to the contrary, maybe this has not been attempted before.

Here are the two First Starters Wikipedia links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaborative_writing

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaborative_fiction

Probably the least of our worries would be to elect someone who would take responsibility for keeping our project on track.

I have no idea who this might be, really. And we need someone who has no adze to grind.

For those writers who are just sitting out there with nothing to do on their Farms in the Warm Sun, swigging Thai Beer, here is a chance for you to do something useful for a change.

Sorry, FarmGirl, I know you are working your adze off on your farm, fish farm, eel farm, whatever you have. I really like your Hat, though, and maybe you have some ideas (constructive) appropriate to share about this new Novel. Or not, it is a free country in Thailand.

(I also know there are some really talented writers hiding their lights under bushels at the What Are You Reading Now Topic. Maybe 2 of them might help out.)
