Cool down! He was looking for a bridge. whistling.gif

Buses and minibuses do that all the time on the highway. I generally give them all the way they want to go to hell, if I have enough time to get out of their way.

In general, tailgating is a national sport of dimwits Thais, and overtaking in blind curves is another favorite sport of suicidal idiots.

Took a taxi earlier this week, and was trying to explain him the rule of 3 seconds (he was tailgating the cars)... Useless, even if he spoke some english. Actually, he told me why worry about accident, as there is 24 hrs insurance. LOL Maybe an explanation as to why they are so careless?

He's probably thinking if you're a good person you'll be reincarnated as something good, so why worry?

If a vehicle is too close to my rear I slow down then speed up again making some room. If they do it again I go to a full stop then speed off, a few cars will usually overtake them so they can sit inches from someone else's bumper.

On our road trip to Chiang Mai I was amazed at the stupidity of bus drivers. Lunatic's is probably the best term.

.

I frequently advise the Missus that excessive speed and lack of stopping distance is easily one of the major causes of car accidents worldwide. I tell her there's NEVER a good enough reason to ignore that simple fact.

But I agree with the poster about the bus needing a bridge. 555

hardly see anyone here practises the 3-seconds rule ! in expressway fast lane, I drive 100km/h to 120km/h and already 20km/h+ over the speed limit. anyone want to tailgating, find their way to hell then.

I usually leave my foot off the gas, if they don't catch it, I press the brake a bit for the brake light.

Why even play their game by slowing down and speeding up again? Just move out of their way and let them go kill someone else. If you 'suddenly' find a tour bus on your arse, flashing their lights, maybe you haven't really been paying attention.

As for stopping dead on the highway.... <deleted>???!!!

Come on guys, you serious?

So the 3-second rule applies to you and the distance to the car ahead. Great.

Most Thai's have no concept of the 3 second rule but you already know this.

Maybe a good idea to use your farang driving excellence to project the 3 second rule BEHIND you no?

Then, if someone is on your back bumper, just ease over and let them have your 3 second space. They will be out of yours soon enough and you can make a nice new one.

I drive faster than them, why would I let them in front? Then I'd have to overtake them again. The only reason they're on my bumper is because we're in traffic which is the worst place to have someone on your bumper (especially a bus). If the vehicle in front breaks hard, everyone in my car dies. If protecting myself and passengers means stopping a bus dead on a highway so be it.

It's the 2 second rule and your braking in the fast lane is more dangerous than what the other guy is doing. Just move over.

These dabbing the brake xxxxx have been around since christ was a cowboy. Dangerous then, dangerous now. The best thing to leave at home when driving is one's ego.

No i don't Drive Busses, neither do i sneer at those who do. I tend to look down on arrogant Pups with 20 Inch Look at ME Wheels and Thai Tuna Driverscheesy.gif ..

Ah.... you have embraced that Thai 'me first' driving philosophy. Well done!

Do you also speed up to block them when they try to pass you on the nearside? You have dark tinted windows maybe?

If the vehicle in front of you brakes hard and you hit it, maybe, just maybe, you were way, way to close in the first place?

So the guy in front of the bus in front of you also subscribes to the same school of absurd reasoning and decides to stop in the fast lane so he can "protect himself and his passengers".

Doesn't it annoy you when a bus in front of you suddenly brakes because the xxxx in front of him that you can't see has a deathwish FOR NO APPARENT REASON?

So you're afraid the guy in front of you suddenly brakes and forces you to suddenly brake (hope you keep enough distance to avoid an accident) and have the bus bump into you. So to solve the problem you suddenly brake.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

If someone tailgates you in the fast lane, you aren't going fast enough and it doesn't matter if you're going 20 km/h over already. Move over and don't be a <deleted>, they may in fact have a reason to go fast.

I always give way. No point doing anything else with dangerous drivers, and I certainly don't drive faster than the Thais. LOL Respecting speed limits and distances are the keys to being safe. Not playing chicken with tailgaters.

Note however, that in such situations, my teacher recommended tapping on the breaks to get them to keep distances, accelerating to put some distance... Otherwise, he said just give way and do not insist.

And I am very happy to let them go ahead of me. Just afraid of having buses or tailgaters in my back rather than in front, where at least I can prepare evasive action should they meet their demise.

Two words come to mind, pounded in from the indoctrination in defensive driving I received during my youth.

Dead right.

guys, I confess this is not a right way of driving :- ( intention is not blocking the tailgating, while on my left free lanes for them to run. in most instances, I do exactly below :

in my country, bus and truck are limited at 70km/h and van at 80km/h. with their heavy loads, don't expect their brakes could be functioned at these speeds. I do run away if these guys at my bumper.

this isn't your country thank god. and if i rented a minivan to get me somewhere i would not be to happy at 80 km/h.

simply put, my family would not be caught dead (literally) on a bus or public minivan.

self drive, fly or a private minivan/car hire where you can control the driver is the only way.

anything else is a false economy.

if i cant afford a couple thousand baht to get there, i cant afford to go there, period.

This is the story of Johnnie O'Day,

Who died in his fight for the right of way,

He was right, dead right,

But now he is just as dead as if he had been wrong

True story, my dad fell ill while fishing with their friends, they rushed him in to an emergency, it took them a little while by which time it was too late so he passed away.

I'm not saying someone tried to slow them down, but IF I was there and was a driver and some Mr. Right or Cop wannabe tried to slow me down, I would have pushed and run the F**ker off the road with no concern for his/her safety.

Not pointing fingers at anyone here, just saying speeders may have a reason to speed so move over, it's that simple, it makes everyone's life easier.

I always move over to let these big buses through, I can not understand why they are inches from your bumper when you are behind slower traffic, they flash you and move from side to side trying to get past even though there is no where to go because of the traffic in front of you, it's as if this is what they are taught, get past at any cost!! they seem unconcerned about the consequences of there actions, maybe they are just unintelligent morons!! It's definitely the last time I will drive through the night, these buses drive too fast!!

Must be the Thai Bus Drivers Fault again.!!, couldn't be a Superior Ferang could it.biggrin.png

Tragic story about your Dad. My condolences. I once broke every traffic law getting my sister to a hospital.

I'll give you one more reason I pull over and let them pass, strictly selfish.

An idiot behind me is a danger to me and my passengers. An idiot in front of me...isn't- I control the following distance.

He's the next guy's problem now.

Absolute stupidity, concentrating on touching the brake at 120kph, instead of concentrating 100% on the road!

It bothers you if someone wants to go faster than your already illegal speed?

Just move over if you're vehicle is too slow for the traffic behind.
