Mates,

I saw the imobile brand at several shops, and prices look attractive.

I'm thinking of getting a new smartphone, so might go for an imboile.

1. is imobile a chinese phone with a thai "sticker", or is it made in thailand?

2. How is the build quality?

3. Specs wanted:

- quadband 2g

- 900/2100 3g. 850/900/2100 3g would be nice.

- rootable

- native support for SIP (this is available from Android 2.3, but some manufacturers disable this option).

- Android 4.1 or above

- front and back cameras

- a large RAM and a reasonably fast processor

4. any models come with a hardware keyboard (slider)?

TIA

I have an IQ6 it is an excellent phone and takes a beating. The only complaint I have is the battery life, but then I use my phone all the time and there are work around solutions. It is a great phone at any price, but at ฿8,470 I don't think you can beat it. The new IQ X is probably better and use to be about the same price but I think it's about ฿1,000 more now.

The IQ5.3 comes with all 3G options, 850,900 and 2100mhz, and a quad core processor but the screen resolution is not as good as the IQ X(A) and neither are the cameras. It's also about 3000 baht cheaper though.

Why don't you just look at the spec for each model on their web site first then ask specific questions after?smile.pngwhistling.gif

I got the immobile 6A for 6790 but I asked discount and got for 6500. Duel core bigger memory ect 2 simply, very impressed with It as its fast. I had galaxy 2 before but it failed after plugging it in car. The immobile 6a is much better than galaxy 2. 5.3 screen too. Free silicone case.

I forgot to say when you get new phone give it full charge first and let it empty down to 0 battery. Do that 2 or 3 times and battery life is much better. Usually get 2 days out of a charge.

When I first got my IQ XA there would only be about 30% battery life left at the end of the day but after having it for several weeks that has now improved to about 70% remaining.

They are so cheap that only the best ones are an option, IQX and IQ9, because the resolution of all other models is ridiculous and under 720x1280.

Not the IQ6 its resolution is 1280x720 it has a 12 mp camera and a dragontail glass display, a great phone, but if I was buying one now I'd get the IQX or IQ9, they weren't out in February.

I had briefly an IQ 5 and returned it to Tesco because the out going volume was terrible and people could hardly hear me. The incoming voice quality was just fair.

I had a cheap Imobile phone and it was "What did you say". Terrible. Later I was glad to learn that my friends were not under water.

The best quality calls to the US I get on my computer using a Magicjack and ear phones. Sounds great, Does depend on a good internet connection. Also I get a SF phone number that people can call. No one can tell that I'm not in the US. Caller ID shows my SF phone number. Voice mail messages come attached to an email.

+1 for the IQX

I have been using one the past month and for the money it’s a great performer.

Its rootable but not easily as you have to drop a new ROM in rather than the easier one click solutions.

The iMobile range cover EITHER 900 or 850 not both. What carrier was you going to use?

Why do you need quad band 2G?

Runs Android 4.2

Has a decent front camera and a very good 18M rear.

Have you read the spec on them as these answers are all covered in the iMobile promo literature.

If it's the iq5 or iq6 make sure you get the newer iq5.1 or iq6.1 because it makes a big difference and costs same. Faster (quad core instead of dual) and other improvements.

You should have taken it to an official imobile service center. They are very helpful and would have probably given you a new phone on the spot.

Three years ago, imobile made phones with all these great features and at an unbeatable price. But the actual phone sucked. Bad antenna, speaker, microphone. They looked like the kind of company that was interested more in a quick sale than a satisfied customer. So I wrote them off.

They are the only telephone manufacturer I know of coming out of Thailand. That is one of the reasons that they are so cheap and the service is fast. They are pretty much unheard of in other countries. The other day an old friend gave me his old istyle imobile and said that the touchscreen had problems. After losing my last iPhone I had been avoiding the heartbreak of losing another expensive phone. But I really missed having gps maps, translation apps, and little organizer tools to make my days smoother. So, I decided to run to their shop and just find out how much to fix the screen.

I was amazed at the new models like iQ, they looked like a quality phone just as sexy as an iphone 5. I found out that the screen would cost just as much to fix as if I traded up to a istyle 7.3. I was only in the city for a few more hours, and had a 3000 baht budget. So I went for it. It is a good phone, and I am enjoying learning how to work with the flexible Android system.

BUT... I really didn't know what an android needs to run, and the phone is running right on the edge of maxing out its RAM most of the time. I don't know if I can upgrade the RAM, but at their prices it would be stupid not just to move up the iQ series or higher. These phone offer a lot of cool features that now I understand is possible because they have the sufficient processing power to work just as well as Samsung, HTC, or any other much more expensive phone.

If imobile can get there marketing up to get themselves known outside of Thailand, then I think they could be on the verge of beating the big boys in a big way. I would recommend any of their phones that have come out since the iQ series.

Is there an I-mobile shop in Chiang Mai?

YES, the only official i-mobile service center in Chiang Mai, and northern Thailand as far as I know, is on the Third Floor of the Airport Central Mall. If you go to the far end towards the parking lots and theaters, look for IT City on the right. The i-mobile shop is just a little further and around the corner to the right. They are great, helpful, and able to give you all kinds of options or tips. But, be sure to take a number from the counter if you need service at the back counter. I missed it my first time and ended up getting behind someone that was trading in around 15 different phones for their shop. I don't think it is usually too much waiting, but I had the dumb luck of coming five minutes after the mall opened at 11 am. I think that this is probably a busy time of the day.
