Just bought a new smartphone.

My old old old Nokia had the big "normal" Sim card.

The new one has a very small one.

So tomorrow I must visit DTAC. I have a contract where I pay every month 200 Baht.

Can they move my number to a new Sim?

Changing number would be bad, because my internet banking uses it and I don't know if I can change that number per email or if they need signatures.

Theoretically Sims can be copied, but don't know if someone is doing it.

They will give you a new (micro or nano) SIM, and associate it with your existing number. It is free and it takes less than 5 minutes.

Amazing!! Thanks!

I guess I must go there in person, right? I can't send a motorbike?

We bought a new smart phone in Australia for the wife. The guy had a machine and cut her old sim to fit the new phone. Works perfectly.

rofl...would be interesting if there is an adapter to use the small one on the big phone.

I would not recommend cutting a SIM or using an adapter; either might work but why bother when a swap is free. There are uSIM to min-SIm adapters, depending on your phone they might work, or they might get permanently wedged in place.

I had to change my DTAC mini-SIM (original, standard-sized) to a micro-SIM when I got a new phone. It was very easy. They didn't ask for any ID so maybe any third party could do this for you at any full-service DTAC shop.

Yes it can be cut but better be seat he'd to a proper sized one as the micro SIM isn't just smaller, it's also a little thinner.

Yes there are adapters and I find them useful when you need to swap the SIM from one phone to another and those 2 phones are different size SIMs.

Don't you love autocorrect? I don't even remember what I said that it changed to "better be seat he'd".

Adaptors to fit small SIM's into large Sim phones are readily available in phone shops. I've seen the SIM card cutters for sale in MBK.

Yes you can change at any DTAC center. To be prepared I would bring your passport along. Thy have asked me to provide it when I swapped mine from a normal to a micro sim and then once again from micro to nano. Cost is free with DTAC an takes only a few minutes.

Went to the DTAC shop. They understood and needed 3 minutes.

copied something from the old SIM to the new SIM (addressbook??).

And than cut the new SIM to the small size.

(I wounder why the copy the information if the cut a big SIM to the small size, they could simply cut my old SIM).

So total stay at DTAC approx. 3 min. Total money Zero Baht. Total hassle explaining: Zero.

Very pleasant experience.

^ Maybe they ran out of uSIMs? Maybe they backed-up your data before cutting the SIM in case they botched the job?

In my case they gave me a new uSIM, reprogrammed it, and kept my old SIM.

they gave a new cut (u)SIM and gave me back the old SIM telling that the old one doesn't work anymore.

So why not just cutting the old one?

Oh, OK. They had a NEW duo-cut SIM, which allows one to snap out a uSIM.

IMO, cutting a SIM is not always successful, and there are newer (technology) SIMs which might support additional services in the future.

aaahhhh....that is possible....I thought she/him cut it, but it might has been "precut".

That makes more sense...
