Hi all,

I've looked, but cannot find a thread for this. I apologise if I missed it somewhere.

I am Type 2 diabetic and use Humalog Quick Pen to inject. Quick Pens are disposable after you have used the contents and cannot be refiled. The Quick Pen can't be sourced in Thailand and the doctor I see at the hospital in Khorat has prescribed Humalog insulin cartridges, that need to be put into a pen before use. The pharmacist there didn't seem to understand that I needed a cartridge pen to use them with, so now I have to try to source one elsewhere.

I live in Nong Bua Lamphu and have tried the local pharmacies, but without success. One of them sold me 10 x 100m syringes for 100 Baht, which I can use for now, but the refillable pen would be the better option.

Does anyone here know where or how I can get a Humalog insuli pen?

HI Oishii

Please PM me as I am on an insulin pump. I would like to help you if I can know more of your age, diagnosis, etc. This is private not for forum members. Lets chat.

Thanks for the reply gamini, but I need the pen, not the insulin.

Out of interest, how much is your insulin?

Hello All, I buy Humalog cartridges here in Korat(no "h") in Korat!

Been using pen-fills for about 15 years.

There was another thread about where to get insulin in Korat, I

posted a map and a picture of the store.

You have to order 2 boxes(2X5 cartridges) which costsabout

Bt.3200, about what I paid for 1 box in BKK at Bumrungrad.

Takes 4-8 days after order before it arrives. Have not found

Humalog at any other store in Korat(13 years).

PM me if you want the P/N. He speaks English.

Thanks for the info rice555.

I got my insulin along with other med's all included in the price of seeing the Doctor. He wanted 6,000 Baht, but I told him I didn't have it, so he came down to 3,000.

It's the pen that the cartridges fit into that I need now.

Hello All, the pharmacy that I posted about has or can get both

pens for Nova and Lilly 3 mL cartridges. If you need ASAP,

I have a spare new in the box HumaPen Ergo II(Lilly). PM me if

you are interested.

Hello All, TerryLH, Nova and Lilly cartridges are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE in

the others pens, I use both brands daily.

Lilly has threads on the pen for the needle, Nova the needle screws onto the

cartridge which has the treads, there is also some differances with the cap

that holds the rubber stopper.

Would post pic's to show the differances , but still having problems trying to

upload pics to TV.

Hello All, another thing about the two brands of Pens,

both the Nova and the BD needles are interchangeable.

I like the BD Micro-Fine +, 5mm.

This is interesting me at the moment as my wife has been ill for a while. Terrible thirst, urinating a lot, loss of weight and sleeping a lot. I think that these are symptoms of diabetes 2 which is common in South Asia. Want her to go to the doctor before things get worse. Im wondering whether I can get a test pack in the local chemist to convince her. Cheers Mike

Classic symptoms. The local pharmacy may have, depends where you are. I live in Nong Bua Lamphu and the pharmacies here can't supply any thing for diabetics. The local hospital, or health clinic should be able to help you with an initial test, but there are many extensive tests to check if it is actually diabetes. Get her checked as soon as. It can cause some serious problems if left untreated.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. We are off to BKK on 31st for uor daughters wedding so will insist she gets checked there. She doesn't listen to me but does to her daughter!

Thanks again fot the info as I believe this type of diabetes is common in Isaan. Now I know of several neighbours who have it, some needing to inject themselves rather than rely on oral medication.

Regards Mike

Hello All, late as of when this thread was going, but was not able to

post pictures then.

This is a pic of the differences of the Lilly/Nova insulin pen cartridges.

The two green cartridges are Nova, one with the threaded cap removed

so you can see the size differance.
