Where in Phuket and which brand to buy for GPS to use in Thailand and what price do I approximately have to expect?

I have a small portable Garmin Nuvi which works very well. The other place you could try is Chai Autosound, on the bypass road between Tesco and Toyota Pearl, right next to the new Siam Naritawat show (or whatever it's called!). They have fitted GPS units from Kenwood and other brands as well. We just had one put in the car, 7 inch screen and a reversing camera for about 40,000 if memory serves. The 6 inch screens are cheaper but I think look a bit crap.

Check the Garmin website.

I too have a Garmin Nuvi (though about 4 years old now), which cost from recollection around 15,000 baht. The shop was in Central, 1st floor near the Sony and Canon shops in the corner.

Thanks for the replies!

If the Garmin car products sold in Europe can be used in Thailand I think I delay my purchase until next trip back home because as far I can see the prices from the big electronic chains in Europe is much cheaper than in Thailand. I have an old GPS sports watch bought in US and that is functioning both in Europe and Thailand and if the same is possible with the Garmin auto navigation systems then its considerable lower price in both USA and Europe.

Almost any android phone will do the job, from about 3,000bht.

Add navigation software 'Sygic' Thailand for about $10.

Galaxy Tab 2 7" wifi version for about 5000bht if you want a big one.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 40 a year ago. It is absolutely fine and less than 4000 baht. Available at any Se-ed bookstore.

Most any GPS will work anywhere in the world, but you have to have the map. I would buy from ESNR (sp) the official Garmin dealer in Thailand. Free map upgrades for a year and B400 after that.

Nokia phones come with navigation and (almost) worldwide maps for free.
