Hi all,

I am going to be starting a TEFL course on 9th September for 4 weeks and I have overlooked the need for a criminal record check (CRB) certificate, which I will no doubt need to produce at some point when applying for some jobs.

Has anyone had to apply for this outside of the UK.. how difficult is it and how much is it likely to cost?

Any help or advice most appreciated.

Thanks.

I believe the Metropolitan Police do this. You should be able to get all the details from their website. A colleague did this about 4 years ago and I'm sure he got it through the Met (although he lived in Wiltshire prior to leaving the UK).

He gave me the link details so PM me if you have any trouble and I'll dig it out for you.

Disclosure Scotland will do an online certification for you providing its just the Basic Disclosure. You don't have to live in Scotland either.

They will also send the disclosure overseas but only by surface mail, not air mail. Best to have them send it to another UK address (parents?) and they can FedEx (or similar) it to you.

I believe the process takes 2-3 weeks in total.

You can't obtain a CRB, only an employer can request one.

A Subject Access clearance costs 10 pounds. You just need to visit your local police station and request one. However, they can take 40 days to come through. They may suggest you need a Police Certificate which takes less time and costs more. Either one is OK for Thailand. If they come through after you have left, ask someone to forward to you in Thailand.

If you need to obtain one in Thailand:
