Europe remains the key to Britain’s future economic success
With settlements now a very moderate deal was reached, the EU only requires a modest percentage of settlements to be made in the EU. However, the EU could have mandated a far greater precentage of settlements has to be made in the EU. That would have substantially reduced the business the City does in terms of settlements. US banks located in London would have had to use EU clearing houses, they'd have had no choice. So the major UK clearing houses would not have had that business anymore. It would not have applied "equally" to the US sector, because US clearing houses in the US would not have been affected, only the UK's clearing houses would have. Could some US banks in the UK have decided the extra cost of Frankfurt clearing houses would make them cease operations in Europe alltogether, yes, but extremely unlikely. They'd just have paid the Frankfurt fees for settlements. This is what I mean, this would have benefitted Frankfurt as a financial centre. Equally with foreign exchange business btw, the EU could mandate a few things and that business would migrate from London to Frankfurt or Paris, because it would have to due to new regulations. -

Bill Maher Warning to Democrats Over Embrace of young radicals cheering on terror orgs
Weak, very weak, of course the majority are dems. Another head in sand denial moment for you. Democrats still have a Gaza problem four months after Kamala Harris’ loss. A quartet of progressive advocacy groups are asking the Democratic National Committee in a new letter to better engage with pro-Palestinian voters, according to a copy shared with POLITICO — a sign that the party’s rift over the Israel-Hamas war could stretch into the midterms. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/03/12/pro-palestinian-groups-dnc-00225896 -
