"Off-license" in Bangkok with a selection of nice wines ?

I am looking for a nice bottle of red burgundy wine for a special occasion. In Thailand that - unfortunately - probably translates to 3.000 - 5.000 baht.

Any place in Bangkok that sells this sort of thing ?

There are several Pinot Noirs at the wine connection that would fit the bill. Pinot Noir is a Burgundy, depending on which country you are in.

Pinot Noir is a Burgundy if the bottle label says it comes from Bourgogne in France. Some people judge wine by the label, not by its taste and some people have to buy a certain label to make an impression on a particular occasion.

Alternative suggestion. Gourmet Market (Siam BTS) have a large selection of decent wine or Villa is worth a visit too.

I am looking for a wine from certain region of France for sentimental reasons.

I might add that I come from a part of Europe where we use the region a wine comes from when talking about wine. Obviously, wine experts usually know what grapes are used in different regions, but that is not the way people talk about wine. People reading wine bottle labels will look for what region the wine comes from, not grape names.

OP I suggest if you're looking for a specific bottle you contact the winery back home and see if they have a distributer here in Bangkok.

Also possible if they have a website to do it yourself, if the website has the international distributers listed.

If the bottle is sold to trade only, you'll then have to set about finding said establishment stocking the wine, easy enough if you can get in touch with the distributer, they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

From experience, Wine Connection is not that great in terms of its selection unless you're looking for run of the mill mid range (at best) wines.

Villa's not bad nor is Central, I've found some vintaged beauties at Tops and I would say it was by absolute fluke as opposed to intent.

Example, I found a d'Arenburg 2008 "The Hermit Crab" Viognier Marsanne ฿999 an absolute bargain IMHO given it retails back home for around $22 and that's for current vintage. Given this example is an '08 and we're in '13 the wine has aged brilliantly and has that smooth velvety texture you get from a Viognier, the Marsanne just adds to that buttery goodness...

It's even better value, when you compare it against a Kilikanoon 'Morts Block' which retails back home for around the same but here retails for ฿1,800

I think I'll be off to Tops tonight to see if they have some left...
