Most of the 2nd hand furniture sold in shops here is mildewed as it is stored in covered outdoor warehouse type buildings. We looked at some things that people were selling from their homes over the Internet on Thai classified websites. Quality much better of course but most people were trying to get close to what they paid for the items so no real bargains.

The price of a lot of 2nd hand stuff is sold at nearly the same price

as new, not just furniture but also cars and motor bikes, its not like

the West where if you buy something new and sell it few weeks later

the price is expected to be around half price, but not here.

Best look on ThaiVisa and Bahtsold websites for yard sales,where

Farangs leaving sell their stuff off.

Bang Ma just past the Lampoon turn off ,has lots of cheap and nasty furniture .They also have 2 or 3 shops with quality stuff .All new not s/h .

A couple of months ago I was looking for furniture and checked out some second hand places and I wouldn't put any of that stuff in my house. I'm a big fan of second hand stuff but what I saw was basically sitting under a cover but otherwise exposed to the elements and all the things that come with that like mildew, rats etc. And the prices were simply ridiculous.

Better to find somebody selling a household and try to do a package deal with a reduced price.

if i had a house it would have been furnished from those groups by now, most stuff is sold by expat women.

Most of the Thai furniture I have bought - cheap and expensive - have lasted a very short time anyway, poor quality - so I would personally stay clear of second hand.

Bought forty teak tables (for café) before, couple of years back - had them made to order. Cost 7k (after negotiations bringing them down from 12k) - with a year's guarantee - needed to send back almost every one (some had legs that just fell off because they had drilled the holes to wide for the bolt sockets, they tried to fix it with wood filler! - the flat tops where made with sections biscuit-ed together, which is fine, but the ends are uneven and they used insufficient glue a lot of the time resulting in cracks and warping. All in all pretty shoddy job - and that was from a specialist factory purporting to make quality products (they do for the one-of-each in their show room!)

Never, ever buy used electronics or refrigerators, unless you enjoy life on the wilde side....

I bought exactly the same baby stuff from Robinsons and Central for less than what people wanted on that newsletter for goods that were 3-4 years old.

Frankly, it's hard enough finding quality NEW furniture, let alone used ... Index, HomePro, Baan Tawai are ok but check the product thoroughly for manufacturing defects upon delivery.
