Kwanchai Presses Libel Charge Against Democrat MP

BANGKOK: -- A prominent member of the Redshirts movements and his wife have pressed charge of defamation against a Democrat MP who accused them them of stealing diamonds during political riots in 2010.

Around 100 Redshirts also accompanied Mr. Kwanchai Praipana and Ms. Arphon Sarakham to the police station in Udon Thani province.

According to the evidences presented to the police, Mr. Issara Somchai has spoken on the stage of a Democrat-organised rally on 5 October that Ms. Arphon has stolen diamonds from Central World shopping mall, which was partially burned down in the chaotic aftermath of Redshirts rally in 2010.

Mr. Issara was criticising the attempts by Pheu Thai Party to amend the 2007 Constitution to pave way for a fully elected Senate body and lift the ban which prevents spouses of existing MPs to run for the Senate.

The Democrat MP reportedly told the crowd that after the Constitution is amended and Ms. Arphon elected as a Senator, "The Parliament will be a parliament of thugs".

Mr. Kwanchai claimed Mr. Issara violated the laws by broadcasting such libellous statements via Blue Sky TV, the cable network allied to Democrat Party.

He added that Ms. Arphon has been a "fighter" for democracy and encouraged to run for the Senate by her Redshirts supporters.

The Redshirt leader also threatened to press charges against Mr. Issara in other police stations across the country.

Is it libel if it's true?

in Thailand yes....it is libel even if it is true.

Why am I not surprised lol

And why did it need 100 people to go to the Police Station?

No update on his dressing up and impersonating a police officer during the anti Thaksin protest at govt house last month? You would think he would try and keep a low profile.

Look at all the trash in the picture. The morons in front hoping to become MP, senators or even ministers so they can enrich themselves and the uneducated idiotic sheep behind who keep voting for them and hoping for a free hand out. Makes me want to puke.

Is it libel if it's true?

Is there any evidence that it is true?

No idea if it's true or not, I was curious whether it was still considered libel if it in fact turns out to be true.

psssst.....else he'll sue you as well

Low life. Bitter he got connected with crimes related to the mob madness.

It shows how he and people like him are so sure of themselves and probablw with good reason. Nothing more will be heard of the impersonation I'm sure.

The queue to register for the new season of Thailand's Got Talent wasn't quite what the producers had hoped for......

"And why did it need 100 people to go to the Police Station?"

It is commonly referred to as "the herd instinct".

There is no need to defame redshirts, they work on it restlessly.

not with this government......

These laws were put in place to protect the guilty! Until they are repealed there can be no freedom of the press, or democracy!

As soon as a judge is chosen to hear the matter those 100 plus many of their friends will surround the court, his house and give out his phone number to the public. All in the name of democracy of course.

Wish they had a body language expert.wink.png

I am guessing the total amount of IQ in that picture is no more than 45

How you can be a leader without any followers?

Stealing diamonds is nothing, compared to stealing the hopes and dreams of millions of poor rural people, who trusted the redshirt PTP to represent their too-long overlooked plight. The rural poor, and even some urban poor, trusted in and voted for the redshirt cause, on the solemn promise that was given, to tackle mass-poverty and infrastructure problems in the agrarian regions, and to crush the decadent pigtrough elites. Instead we have seen no actual improvement in rural QOL and we have seen the PTP ordering a bigger trough with reinforced iron supports. Betrayal doesn't even cover it. This photo is another example, yes if he is libelled he should defend his name, I have no problem with that, if he goes home after this and works tirelessly to defend the rights of the poorest in society etc. such as was promised pre-election. But he is pressing charges to get more money, and when he goes home afterwards he won't do jack for the common workers.

"The Redshirt leader also threatened to press charges against Mr. Issara in other police stations across the country."

How many times can you or are you allowed to press charges? Pressing charges more than once seems a waste of valuable police time, indicate a certain level of disrespect for laws. Are these the people we're supposed to elect to parliament to represent us? These the people to be elected to the senate to supervise the parliament?

I am guessing the total amount of IQ in that picture is no more than 45

Wrong. 44.

Yunla. What a great observation. Absolutely spot on.

So is their any evidence of him stealing diamonds or not? Let's stop playing BS games and just see if there is or isn't.

44... you're an optimist, aren't you!
