Vietnam Visa without leaving Isan

Featured Replies

Is there a way for an American to get a tourist visa for Vietnam without leaving Ubon? Planning to go up to Mukdahan and over but don't want to bother going to their embassy in Bangkok.

P.S - But you are not allowed another road trip until you finish your blog report on your drive to Angkor Wat!!! :)

Savannakhet has a Vietnam Consulate. Anyone have experience there?

Oh bugger - right you are Ubonrthai - sorry about that.

I always drive from Ubon to the Consulate in Khon Kaen. In all five visits, there has never been anyone else applying for visas. Longest wait was 15 minutes. I do suggest to ring first to check if they are open. A friend of mine went some years ago and it was closed for a Vietnamese National holiday. However, it takes a whole day to go to Khon Kaen and back to Ubon. I leave Ubon at about 7:30 am and get to the consulate at about 11 am. Have a relaxing lunch at the Pullman hotel and usually get back into Ubon at 5 pm.

To the best of my knowledge you have to get the visa at a the Embassy or a consulate for land crossings, there is no online visa. Online is only for flights.

Easy to do, one-man operation from his booth working out of a small house.

All finished in fifteen minutes. Can't remember the cost though. This was last year.

New policy according to embassy and travel agents. 70USD and 3 day wait. Same for Canadian.

The Vietnam consulate in Khon Kaen is open, the cost of a 30 day visa is 2500 baht

They also have 60 and 90 day visas. Phone # 043 242 190. I don't know the hours

but when I called he said open at 9 am. I did one here before and it took 15 minutes.
