until someone has cause to test the scheme we have to play it by ear.

after reading what the goverment is proposing regarding charging tourists and long stayers for medical services needed or not,

we are going to need a big pair of ears.

Awaiting patiently for an official documentation concerning this. In English (for the Farang) and in Thai (for the hospital-staff). That even can be printed out !!

Useless to waive a Pamphlet in English in front of a hospital administrators nose in Nakhon Nowhere. Must be in English/Thai.

Even then, chances that hospital-administrators ever heard of such "strange things, involving Farangs" coming from the far away Bangkok-Government are practically nil.

Time for concrete results or otherwise drop the subject. My view.

Cheers.

More than enough information in thai has been given and the link in the previous post even gives the phone number if problems.

I think it is you who should drop it.

Little do you know expats on work permits are all on this scheme, although they pay 700 Baht a month instead of the 2000 a year. The scheme is good for small things even hernia operations, but when it comes to serious illnesses I don't think it would work too well. I think I'll stick with Bupa at $1300 a year for myself and my wife and I will be 69 yrs. old in December.

Last week a friend of mine informed me that his neighbour a retired German living in village outside of Ubon Ratchathani, recently had a hernia operation at the main Government hospital in Ubon Ratchathani. His wife had arranged for his "30 baht insurance scheme" using her house registration. Total cost of the operation came to 1200 baht which was for some take-home medicine.

I'm totally against this scheme for expat foreigners as we would be using a Thai health care system that the Thai's have been paying to through there tax. As for migrant worker's yes this system should be used for them as they are now in the tax payment system. As for the use of the government hospital's there fee's are very reasonable.

Again - that is Social Security. This thread is about another program.

I've often words like this, usually by people who don't know much about the SS program and benefits.

In my experience, the coverage is pretty good, even for the 'larger' issues.

Yours scheme is the Social Scheme. It provides an extended range of care and allows private hospital care in your selected hospital. It is not the same.

THe scheme mentioned is not funded by the taxpayer at all. It is funded by the contributions of the foreigner just as yours is for a much higher level of care including pensions and unemployment benifits from your contribution.

Irrespective. It doesn't matter wether I show my local hospital the English or the Thai links, They say that the links only apply to migrant workers. End of story.

Did you phone the number given and hand the phone to them.

I do not care whether you get a card or not but you have enough information here. If you do not want to use it that is OK but do not bl

I went to a local Govt hospital in Nakhon Sawan today, showed them the newspaper with an article in the Bangkok Post, the young man was rather dismissive, could have a health check and pay for it but no card and no reference to the Administrator, I will search for the telephone numbers and see what that might bring.

I didn't read everything here, but thought I'd give some input as well.

My dad got his yellow book a couple of weeks ago and went to register for his gold card at the Surin Government Hospital. Did all the checks and tests, paid....2,200 I think, and is now insured.

We tried getting him private insurance sinse he arrived in Thailand earlier this year, but always got declined. He had 2 cancer surgeries last year, heart attack 2 years ago and diabetes for ten years and is currently 63 years old.

Hope this helps some how.

Just to clarrify. This is not tthe GoldCard. It is very similar but is based on an opt in scheme for migrant workers and their families.

Sheryl,

You are the person who has done so much to maintain this topic, so can you please add Ha Sip Pansah Ubon Ratchathani to your list.

Registered yesterday - had a few hurdles to overcome, as I was the first applicant; however, no need to bore everyone with all the happenings, just to say that the Admin lady who helped us was excellent, going out of her way to search websites and make calls to ensure that we were eligible, even chivied up the doctor who was querying how come a fat old retired farang was sitting in front of him with a medical form used by migrant workers to obtain work permits!

I took along all sorts of info (and wife), plus extra copies just in case - maybe a good idea for others who may follow; you never know whether another admin officer would ask for more details.

We went to Saphasit Hospital, our main hospital, first - again a very helpful lady who knew about the scheme but re-directed us to the hospital covering our area - so quite possible that Saphasit would also be OK for applicants applying in that area.

I have to wait for the card but am already entered in the system should I need to use it.

Thanks to all who posted info from Udon Thani, it was a great help.

I believe that 50 Pansah is a NEW hospital dedicated to the Crown Prince. It must be nice.

I'm wondering if you were sent there because you live outside Mueng Ubon? My place is across from Wat Ban Na Mueng. I wonder if I should go to Saphasit Hospital or 50 Pansah.

We are in amphoe Muang, but our tambon in my house book is Ban Tabor and it comes under Pansah. The hospital was created to try to ease the load from Saphasit; at the moment it has nothing like the volume of customers at the main hospital.

It suits me as the journey is very easy and parking is available. I was treated there in August and had good and efficient service - 90 minutes from filling in the form as first time visitor to collecting my medicine.

My wife just explained to me that our place is in Rai Noi and so is Ha Sip Pansah so I am pretty sure that is where is should be going. Was the yellow house book requested by the hospital?

Yes, it was the first item asked for; she entered my reference number into her computer to check the records, then that number was used for the application form.
