@ MJP...

What is a FLU-card? I haven't a clue. You sick or something & going into quarantine?

Enlighten me please...

Had to look it up myself but was pretty sure I knew based on context of WiFi capabilities in previous posts.

Flucard® Pro is a wireless SD card that liberates your photo-taking experience. Besides offering your existing camera the physical storage capacity of a SD card, it transforms the camera into a wireless device, giving a whole new dimension to capturing, storing and sharing your precious moments

In a probably vain attempt to get this thread back on track (i.e topics related to the E-M1), some people find that the E-M1, although larger than other M43 cameras, could use a bit more depth so you can grip with more fingers (the little finger tends to be dangling free is you have larger hands).

One solution is to buy the Olympus grip, complete with battery storage and portrait mode shutter button. But it adds considerable bulk and weight, and the shutter button presses rather uncomfortably against your hand.

Another option, once that also offers some protection to the camera, is a Gariz case. The case has a metal plate at the bottom which a small amount of depth, just enough for the little finger to grip. The plate has a whole in it for changing the battery and the case is well made.

It means you can work your camera with your phone.

We've come full circle!!!

It's here. Done all the settings. Real fast. Focus peaking is incredible. Live view is incredible. Shutter is smooth and no vibration. 8 fps in RAW 24mp. Even nicer ergonomics. AF is blazingly fast with the screw-drive FA Limiteds. Metering is way better. Colours are better apart from red as usual.

It's noisy. It's not even that great at ISO200.

Will test more. But I'm not selling the K-5IIs which is a great low light performer. Better than this.

Ok. Some good news about the E-M1 as if there wasn't enough.

I was riding up on Doi Suthep on one of the back roads. As I was slowing down to let some folks coming up pass, I caught the edge of a large pothole and laid the bike down.

I carry my camera on a BlackRapid strap for easy access when I am riding. Well, the camera took a bit of a header right on the lens cap. The cap took all the force evidently and ended up in pieces. The lens and body, however, suffered only from being a bit dusty. I cleaned it off and checked it out. Still shoots like it is fresh out of the box.

So it gets a thumbs up from me on being a tough built camera. Good work Olympus.

Scary stuff. Glad you (and camera) are OK. Lens caps are ok but a full lens hood is even better, unless you meant hood. The day after I got my previous camera, GH2, I didn't mount the straps right and it slid off my shoulder directly to the ground. Landed on the lens hood and not a mark on the camera or lens. The hood had a very small mark on the edge. I was in quite a panic the moment it happened and can appreciate your feelings when it bit the dirt.

Thanks Fiddlesticks. Yes, all is well here. A few bumps and bruises but nothing my cute Thai massage girl couldn't take care of. :)

Thanks Tywais. No, it was not the lens hood. Considering how it hit, I'm not sure the lens hood would have protected it any more than the lens cap. The metal ones that Olympus uses are much stronger than the plastic ones most of the other manufactures use.

I've noticed for a while, first picked up in my moon shots, I had a 'hot' pixel - bright red. The orchid shots I took recently showed it also in one of the photos which I corrected with the Photoshop healing brush, one click and perfect. I was worried I may have to send the camera back for repair but remember the 'pixel mapping' feature of the camera. It's recommended to run it after first getting the camera and around every 6 months to a year to re-run it. Just ran it and the hot pixel is gone. Yea! biggrin.png

Photo below showing it and it is in a fixed position and doesn't change with camera reframing.

Had the same with the K-5IIs the other day. I was distraught. Inconsolable.

Pixel mapping got rid of it.

Olympus updates OM-D E-M1 with electronic first curtain 'anti-shock'

Olympus has updated the firmware for its flagship mirrorless camera, the OM-D E-M1, adding a mode that's designed to eliminate image blurring due to 'shutter shock' by using an electronic first curtain at speeds below 1/320sec. The update also adds more options for audio control during movie recording. It's available to install now, using the 'Olympus Digital Camera Updater' program.

This is firmware 1.4. Just updated from 1.1 to 1.4 now with no problems.

DPreview.com - The DPreview page describes 1.3 but the current version on the download page is 1.4

//Edit - Ok, this is the latest information of 1.4 on DPreview posted just one hour ago. - DPreview 1.4

//Edit2 - If you do it don't be worried about the long update time. Took about 6 minutes to do.

This lens, along with the 75mm f1.8 and the Panny Leica 25mm f1.4 are the reasons I stay in m4/3rds. Quite amazing trio.

About 25k for the 25mm and 30k for the 75mm new. eBay may be cheaper.

The 75mm is the best lens available for M4/3, and one of the best lenses I have ever owned for any system. The Olympus 12-40mm is my walk-around lens, but I always carry the 75mm as well; just in case I can find an excuse to use it. Cost me around 30k from World Camera; worth every baht.

That is some impressive video mode upgrades if true and one of the weakest points of EM-1 versus the Panasonic GH series. I still have my GH2 as all my lenses work with both and gives me top quality video when I need it. If this is true and it works well may just sell my GH2 body. wink.png

Question is, does the EM-1 have the necessary horsepower to accomplish this feat?

Just noticed that the Zuiko 45mm/1.8 lens now costs just 9.000B at Big Camera. This is quite an reduction from the 15.000B what it used to be just half an year ago.

@oilinki

Which Big Camera store did you see it at?

David

This was in Phuket. Saw the same price in both BigC and Central Festival Big Cameras. They had 4000 baht extra discount for the lens.

Thanks. Looks like a shopping trip this afternoon.

A 4000 baht discount on a 12990 baht lens is a great deal. Thanks for the heads-up oilinki.

They also had some serious discounts on some of the other high end Oly and Panasonic MFT lenses. I'm glad I only took enough cash with me for the one. Had to avoid temptation for once. biggrin.png

Photokina 2014:

Multiple Olympus Announcements: M.Zuiko 40-150mm F2.8 PRO Lens, OM-D E-M1 Silver and Firmware Upgrade 2.0

It is that exciting time of the year again, with Photokina happening, and all camera manufacturers pushing out new products and making huge announcements. Today, Olympus has officially announced 3 important updates to their Micro Four Thirds system range:
1) The highly anticipated M.Zuiko 40-150mm F2.8 PRO Lens
2) OM-D E-M1 Firmware 2.0 (available for both current E-M1 Black and the new Silver version)
3) OM-D E-M1 Silver
Full details here - Robinwong
I've been wating for the 40-150 f/2.8 to come out. Expected prices are around USD $1500. Add the new MC-14 1.4x teleconverter built specifically for the lens and you have a reach out to 420mm at f/4. The only disappointment is in the firmware 2.0. Many rumours abound that they would enhance the video part of the camera to get beyond the 30fps only. But the 2.0 still has some significant improvements, added features.
Firmware 2.0 will be available September 24 16, 2014.

More details on firmware 2.0:

New Firmware Version 2.0 allows added new functionality.

Officially announced 15th of September, Olympus' Flagship unit gains added improvements to what is already a multi-award winning camera. A total of 8 front end functions as well as 16 back end improvements allow for an even better shooting experience. Simply update your camera from home by utilising Olympus' Viewer 3 program. The new v2.0 firmware will be available for download on the 24th of September.

Olympus Capture: Tethering without Compromise

To aid the professional photographer's workflow, Olympus has now added tethering functionality with Olympus' newly developed E-M1 v2.0 firmware. A new app, Olympus Capture will be available for free download from September 24 that will allow for full tethered control of camera shooting functions of your camera from the app or camera body.

Live Composite Implemented for Ultra Long Exposures

Taken from the E-M1's siblings, firmware v2.0 for the E-M1 now supports live composite, a feature that allows for a single outputted image to be captured over a maximum time period of 3 hours. Accidental overexposure is impossible as maximum exposure is defined before the capture begins.

Comp.jpg?width=468&height=262&ext=.jpg

New Art Filters & Photo Story Options

Firmware v2.0 adds two new art filters, partial colour and vintage whilst Photo Story allows for a new IN/OUT layout. In addition, new temporary save and resume functions have been added to the Photo Story Mode.

Improved processing efficiency allows for better operability.

By improving the efficiency of the E-M1's processing, the new v2.0 firmware improves latency of the LCD/EVF from 29ms to an even quicker 16ms for even better camera responsiveness when shooting sport and high speed scenarios.

Perspective Correction with new Keystone Compensation

Firmware v2.0 introduces a new digital perspective correction feature, “Keystone Compensation”. This enables direct in-camera correction of converging vertical lines as well as perspective-control in architecture, real-estate, studio still-life, and artwork photography. The in-camera Keystone Compensation feature eliminates the need for expensive shift-lenses and enables easy perspective-corrected photography with any lens for E-M1 users.

The original date for firmware release appears to have changed as it is available as of Sept. 16. I just installed it now successfully. Believe this is the 3rd update I've done. One thing and that it appears to reset some settings back to factory defaults so need to adjust them back to the way she likes.

That lens looks just soooo good. smile.png

^^^ Thanks again for the settings reset info.

About the lens...I like it too...nice focal length & Zuiko optics are really good.
