Nearly all Central Department stores have or had a small M&S Outlet usually just talking up a small corner on one level, nothing to get exciting about. I remember the one in Central Festival Phuket, it sold a small selection of food, biscuits etc. and some clothes (including thermal underwear !!)

Yes, when I found out that M&S were opening a store in Phuket's Central I expected some interesting new foods to be available. What a disappointment. Just a pokey little corner with very few items. About all I ever bought were digestive biscuits which were hard to find at that time. Since Villa Market arrived on Phuket (now 3 branches) I would never think of going to M&S for food.

M&S used to have a small branch at the Central Gad Suan Gow Kow (sp) mall but it closed eventually, mostly I think because their prices were uncompetitve. Whilst some UK expats may drool at the idea of buying UK biscuits and M&S underwear locally, they may chamge their mind when the see the price tag and compare prices to local alternatives.

Plenty of reasonably priced biscuits from the UK at both tops and Rimping.

Their package sets of socks and boxer shorts are good. Expensive but they last much better than most around.

The boxer shorts my wife made for me 5 years ago are still in good condition. Pricey but good. Around 100,000 baht a pair.smile.png

I guess they would come with a solid gold waistband.

marks and sparks and Tesco lotus, what more could you ask for in chiang mai

Is Marks and Spencer like Wall Mart?

Nah, it's a classy joint, more up market and refined. biggrin.png

As I recall, the last time I saw M&S underwear for sale in Thailand they were priced at THB 1,400 for a pack of three.

The last time I bought a pack of three was in my UK barber shop "something for the weekend sir?"

Quite a few Waitrose products at Tops.

I know but it is only a few.

I remember the old M&S in Chiang Mai when it was just about the only place you could buy decent biscuits here. When other places like Tops and Rimping starting stocking some as well it disappeared.

I remember before that when there were no shops and we had to go out and hunt our own food and pull a few wild vegetables and cook everthing over an open fire, those were the days.

Luxury!.............I remember getting up half an hour before going to bed, getting bow and arrow..........biggrin.png

No mate. It's a sort of upmarket clothes store with lots of branches and a food hall!

Seriously, they were good but not cheap, went through a bad patch and then came back stronger. Good quality clothes - ladies and menswear, and some good food items.

The prices in Bangkok were more expensive than the UK. Also the range obviously massively smaller.

I remember some Chinese colleagues, all young ladies from HK visiting London for the first time a few years ago. They were mad keen to get to Marks and Spencer and buy the latest range blouses and skirts - released in the UK earlier than HK. They think (still) its a good brand.
