I have only been able to find eye drops that are for treatment of conjunctivitis or simply tears (Tears Naturale by Alcon, for example). I have not been able to find eye drops that reduce redness from allergies or common cold. If anyone knows of a specific product to reduce redness, I would greatly appreciate the name of the product.

I am from the US and previously used a product that had as it's slogan, 'Get the red out'. It's called Visine. They now have additonal products but still sell the 'Original Visine'. So, I wrote down the active ingredients and went to Fascino and Boots and was told 'not have'. At a 3rd pharmacy, they had a product which did contain the primary ingredient of the Original Visine, but, had additional ingredients. I pruchased the product, looked it up on the internet (a Siam Pharma product) and found that with the additonal ingredients, it is used for treatment of conjunctivitis. So, not appropriate for me.

If anyone knows of a product and give me it's name, where I could purchase it, if possible (Boots, Watsons, whatever), I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Tetrahydrozoline acts as a vasoconstrictor thus making the blood vessels in the eye less visible.

It has no therapeutic properties.

If your eyes are dry I find Vislube very effective and long lasting at reducing the scratchy feeling and allowing better sight by filling in irregular surface of my eyes.

The question raised was about "Visine" the active ingredient of which serves no therapeutic purpose in the eye and is AFAIK not used for any other medical purpose.

I agree, Albalon A is a very good product, but where do you buy it in Thailand?

Be very careful what you put in your eyes! Don't ask for medical advice on an internet forum.

Other than general purpose products like Optrex eye wash, you should invest a hour of your time and perhaps 600 baht and get an appointment at a eye hospital, they will check your eyes and tell you EXACTLY which drops to use.

My husband and I use ('Klean & Kare' Normal Saline Solution for contact lens and eye irrigation). .Some bottles just say contact lens, but is same med). I researched it online after it was in my bag of meds after a visit to BKK HH Hospital. We like it better than Visine which we had always used until moving here. I buy it at a pharmacy in Khao Takiab that carries many more meds.and products than Boots, Watsons, etc. They have 35, 45 and 65 baht (for refills) bottles. This product should be available at all pharmacies, tho. Look in the contact lens solution area. It has a green label. The 35 baht is 100 mL.I cannot read the ingredients as they are in Thai.. It immediately washes the sandy grit and lubricates the eyes. I don't have problem w/red eye, but hubby does and it helps him with that, too.

I realise this isn't what the OP is looking for, but it could be useful for others who simply have 'dry eye' syndrome.

I have used "Thea Oculosan" for 8 plus years.

My Eye Specialist in Bangkok General recommended it for me.

It is used for the "dry eye" syndrome very common here from A/con, in houses/cars

etc. It immediately reduces the irritation and helps to restore the whites of the eyes.

Can be used as much as required.

I keep the bottle in the fridge door to keep cool and soothing.

The other product he suggested I use at night - "Vidisic Gel" is also VG

I've also had a history of red eye problems.

Both an Australian Opthamologist AND a Thai Opthamologist, recommended Zaditen.

To relieve ... and even cure ... redness, itching, and scratchiness of the eye, a conjunctivitis medicine would work great. The itching and scratchiness you're experiencing is not irritation of the eye per se ... it's irritation (i.e., inflammation) of the conjunctiva ... in fact, conjunctivitis literally means "inflammation of the conjunctiva."

Of course, there are varying degrees of conjunctivitis ... the more extreme being what's called "pink eye."
