Renovation noise at Hillside 4?

Featured Replies

I am looking to rent a condo at Hillside 4.

Tourists on TripAdvisor have complained about constant loud building noise throughout the block due to apartment owners renovating the dated apartments.

Is anyone currently living there who can advise on the level of building noise?

I am looking at the 7th floor.

Thanks

It's not bad. Before you rent check to see there aren't any close by renovations. to the side or above/below the unit.

I am on the 14th and once in a while hear some vibrations from distant work.

Really there is more noise from the street, nearby construction(outside HS) and adjacent businesses like Furama restaurant etc.

it happens in every older condo or townhouse, somebody is always renovating, the sound waves are carried through the concrete and rebar. You may get lucky and avoid it for awhile but it will happen.

^Havent lived in Hillside 4 but have in other condos before now living in a house in a very quiet(for now) sector of the city.

'constant loud building noise throughout the block due to apartment owners renovating the dated apartments....' drove me from the condos I'd rented. The noise of renovation continually reverberates throughout and within the walls of these massive concrete buildings.

When one renovation is complete there are others starting up: it never seemed/seems to stop. Renovation noise is always a persistent jarring, headache-inducing din(a welter of discordant sounds).

Apartments, even the newer stylish ones have their own noise and other issues, cigarette smoke spiraling up through the pipe and electrical conduits being a serious one.

Suggest you rent for a month or so before ever considering renting long-term or, need I say, buying - as once you own it, it owns you.

Have fun...

Thank you all very much for your prompt and informative replies.

I did decide to give it a miss and play safe with a shorter lease at a newer condo block.

Your time and consideration of my question is much appreciated.

Thanks.

At Hillside 4 (and I am sure other condos as well) the management imposes rules on when renovation work can take place. It is only allowed between certain times of the day and if the work creates dust, the owner of the unit being renovated is obliged to pay for the cleaning of adjacent units.

I live in a 'mature' (!) condo and have never had problems with noise although there are many renovations in the building. Noise seems to be very localized so no issue. But if you are near a busy road and below floor 10 do not expect to enjoy a quiet drink on your balcony.... whether old or new condo. And new tend to be far more costly per sq metre.
