We haven't had a Poll for a long while,so I thought there may be some interest,in this Topic.

The Poll does not record your user name.

I'm expecting a result of most of our wives and partners do gamble, especially Card schools, but I could be wrong on this.

I would find the results more telling if the question was "a serious gambling problem" as opposed to "regularly" (weekly?) buying an inexpensive lottery ticket for little money.

I get your point, but as the OP I can't answer that particular point, which could be construed as influencing the result.

If the editfunction is still working, rephrase it to make it more specific.

Thankfully, my wife has never gambled. However, I know several expat. husbands who have gambling wives. In some cases, their wives have lost several million baht but they still cannot see that it's a disease and the problem will recur after every bail out. Other husbands are blissfully unaware that the property they have paid for is in hock.

Gambling is not a disease same as say drinking alcohol is not a disease. Alcoholism is a disease as is some people gambling addiction.

My wife gambles - loves the casino. She plays the lottery regularly. I gamble for a living(not in Thailand)and go to the horse racing in Khon Kaen,Korat, Bangkok. It is not a problem, in fact the opposite, it pays the bills and our new house.

Yes, I suppose I meant gambling as a disease. I see examples where homes, land and vehicles have been lost to creditors and family responsibilities are being neglected but still they carry on. They seem not to consider how they will pay back their loans.

Neeranam....Sorry but Gambling is an addiction ! Its a well known and publicised documented fact.

I dont gamble and neither does the wife, if she had or had I known about it I wouldnt be with her. Gambling out of control ruins lives just like any other addiction. Having said that, each to his own, if thats what you want to do with your life and your money thats your choice.

We used to have a house opposite ours a few years ago, always loads of motircycles and cars outside, people coming and going all hours, I asked the wife what was so popular, she said "casino", the best part is it was owned and run by a Policeman !!

Big money changed hands there including cars and motorcycles apparently.

Yep!

For most things I have something in the Archives ...

On this occasion ... all a bit of relatively harmless fun ... but we all know

it get carried away with, when people bet next weeks rent/car payment.

This was after a Family gathering ... no-one got carried away.

20 Baht a hand ... went for maybe an hour ... winners and losers.

I was invited to play but, without knowing the Rules ... I declined.

Anyone know this game?

I also clicked no but the occasional 50 million dollar lottery ticket tax free back home would even tempt God.

Do I gamble ... occasionally ... w00t.gif

There is a 22 Million LOTTO Draw in Australia this Saturday.

I'll invest $12 in a ticket.

Anyone want to give me 6 numbers between 1 - 45 ?

Oh ... I also own shares in the company that is under licence to run the Lotto ... rolleyes.gif

So I can afford to invest a few dollars now and again.

Gambling, alcoholism, obesity are not diseases they are choices. The 'disease' concept is simply a convenient excuse for people who can't face up to their own addictions or lack of self control. Seems unfair to those people suffering from serious diseases to refer to it as such, particularly if said condition was in no way self-inflicted.

My Wife has been known to gamble down at he cock fighting stadium but that's all just part of the fun.

No she does not, We (her and I) buy lottery tickets, with which we have won many times, not more than 10,000 Baht on our biggest winning tickets. We play at the annual Temple fair, but we also donate items for the prizes!

Too me that is not considered to have a gambling habit, so no!

Gambling is not a disease. It's an habitual addiction. They will go back and even if they win, they will continue until it's all gone. Like all addicts.

No casinoes in Thailand is to be respected imo.

Neereman, please don't take offense to my post, it is just my opinion.

OK, let's get the terms correct. According to Wiki it's a pathological disorder:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_gambling

When does gambling for THB20 with the family become a problem? When an illegal 'casino' opens up in the area. The experiences of others convince me that I would have nothing to do with a woman who gambled in local homes.

The ex gf did........not sure what she does now after I gave her the boot and our 2 teenage daughters stopped answering her phone calls. Ha ha. Spending 100 baht a week on the lottery not so bad, more than that kickem out.
