Generic drugs in Thailand

Featured Replies

When I was an inpatient in Sattahip Naval hospital they gave me a generic for Cardura, (Doxazosin 4 Mg), and for Bestatin, (Simvastatin).

They told me that they didn’t stock Tritace (Ramipril), and to bring my own, but I am sure I have seen somewhere that there is a generic, or maybe an equivalent for this.

Back in 2010 there was a thread asking if the drug Remeron, (Mirtazpine) had a generic in Thailand , as it does elsewhere in the world , but at the time there wasn't one available here. I wonder if there is now?

I would really like to cut down on my monthly drugs bill so any info on this subject would be much appreciated. I know I can ask at the drug store, but they don’t always stock the generic equivalents. If I know a generic is definitely available, I will hunt around for it.

Sheryl, do you have any ideas on the following generics in Thailand?

:

Doxazosin (Cardura)

Carvedilol (Dilatrend)

As far as I can tell, both are out of patent, and are relatively expensive when taken on a daily basis.(2 tabs/day for both drugs.)

Thanks

Doxazosin = Cardoxa, Cazosin, Carxasin, Dovizin, Dozozin, Duracard, Genzosin, Pencor, Xadosin. Check dosages carefully as they vary, many of these come in higher dose form than Cardura.

Carvedilol = Caraten, Tocarlol 25. The first comes in multiple doses, the second only in 25 mg.

You can buy generic Ramipril at Fascino in Pattaya. It's called 'Ramtace' (if I remember correctly) and was about B750 for box of 100x2.5mg tabs

I went there yesterday and asked them specifically about Ramtace. I was told the manufacturer had withdrawn it from the market as it was 'unreliable'.

Anyone heard anything about this? Fascino said they didn't sell any of the other Ramipril generics on Sheryl's list.

Apart from insulin and now Creon, Ramipril is the most expensive drug I take, so I would really like to find a generic to reduce my monthly bill.

Thanks Sheryl, I will check these out.

There is another generic ramipril I've seen called 'Corpril'. I have no idea where to buy this in Pattaya but there is a shop in On-nut, Bangkok that stocks it. Price is similar to Ramtace.

Thanks. Yes it seems to be a generic which is manufactured in the Philippines and India. Maybe I can find a place that stocks it.
