Red Shirt lawyer charges Suthep with spearheading unrest

BANGKOK, Nov 20 – A pro-government lawyer lodged a complaint with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) today, charging former Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban with instigating work stoppages and a tax boycott.

Karom Polpornklang, a lawyer of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), submitted a letter to DSI Director General Tarit Pengdit accusing anti-government protest leader Suthep with threatening to abolish the Constitution, and overthrowing the powers of the legislative, administrative and judicial branches – an offence liable to death or life imprisonment.

He said Mr Suthep instigated a work stoppage and the public's refusal to pay taxes, and threatened to topple the government in his speech at the Democracy Monument rally.

He said Mr Suthep’s behaviour has severely impacted public order in the country, adding that he supported Mr Tarit’s move to take legal action against those blowing whistles at senior government officials.

The DSI chief expressed appreciation to Mr Karom for the “anti-whistle” support and said Mr Karom’s petition would strengthen legal action against the former Democrat MP to life sentence or capital punishment.

He said he is instructing investigators to speed up the case to be submitted to a DSI committee for special consideration November 27. (MCOT online news)

"a tax boycott"

No, the lawyer is mistaken, Suthep has only suggested a delay in payments, which is a totally different thing to a complete boycott, and is perhaps designed to highlight the 'delicate' state of the government's finances at present, they seem increasingly unable to reimburse BAAC for money paid-out on the governments' behalf, and are proposing to borrow all of the funds required for the proposed infrastructure projects.

And if the UDD wish to go after the person responsible for the current unrest, shouldn't they rather target the person behind the shameful hi-jacking of the limited-amnesty bill, to try to absolve former-PMs (of both sides) of allegedly-political crimes ?

I believe that would be someone with the initial 'T', currently residing in the Middle-East, and claiming to be employed carrying bags on golf-courses, for family-members ? rolleyes.gif

I wonder if the same charges and punishment shall apply to red shirt leaders and their financial backers for the 2010 riots and insurrection? whistling.gif

Thank God we have a competent Government now who can bring the financiers to justice. The Dems blocked a few accounts and then forgot about it, probably as it came a little close to home.

Now we have a Govt who can get the police to carry out their duties and they are criticized for it. priceless.

Life sentence or capital punishment?

That is even more than what most people wished.

If it continues, Suthep will be cornered and have to turn to underground guerrilla type of protest.

Go back to your spaceship.

If this government is toppled, watch the likes of Tarit and Karom run for the hills.

If Suthep is banged up in prison with a death sentence or life in prison hanging over him, what do you think is going to happen on the streets?

This will surely be the end of the game, and not in your favour may I add.

The pressure on the streets of Bangkok is slowly building towards explosive proportions. Most of that pressure is coming from the pro-government camp, once it finally blows, Yingluk and her PTP idiots are going to shit bricks.

Then Suthep will be released, once they are all part of history.

A leader cannot command the respect of the police, dont blame it on me. Most people would call that a major failing.

I understand your feelings for the one you support.

However, Suthep is seen by many as a hopeless politician committing treason, inciting rebellion and trying to topple an elected government.

I wonder what drives such a behaviour, if it is not just hate and self interest.

Hopefully I read in today's newspaper that yesterday at 8pm 60.000 red shirts had already arrived to support the government, with many more still arriving at press time.

Suthep should be charged and brought to court for everything he is doing at the moment.

Really gerry? You really support the actions of the DSI?

The DSI is basically asking a red shirt lawyer (with a red tie) to file criminal charges against Suthep AND whistle blowers so they can make it a special case and put in on top of their agenda.

If you decide to support a politician who commits acts of treason, organizes street protests and calls for the toppling of an elected government, I respect your choice. Up to you to chose what is right or wrong.

I am sure that, as an open minded person, you can also understand that other people don't share your perspective. Other people see actions aimed at countering Suthep's dirty moves as appropriate. These people prefer to support a system based on elections rather than never ending street protests and government toppling by all sorts of means.

In my opinion, anything is ok to counter the actions of Suthep. He is bringing back the chaos that was initiated by the yellows on 2006, and that is criminal. So, if he seems so keen to fight anyone who is not on his side, also up to him. But his opponent have the right to fight back. In the same dirty ways as Suthep and the Dems use.

If we change your first paragraph from elected to legal then it seems YOU do. You support Thaksin who was seen to be behind the RED shirt MOB in 2010.

I personally do not support Suthep I think he is old school Thai politics in the vein of Chalerm an Barnhan.

I also can't see how ANY sensible educated person could back Thaksin at this juncture in Thai history. It would seem with the events in the Senate reference the Infrastructure bill that this government and its lackeys do need watching. Very closely!
