BANGKOK, Nov 28 – Police continued convincing demonstrators to leave the Finance Ministry but anti-government protesters announced that they would seize three more state buildings today, according to the National Police chief.

Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew, in his capacity as director of the Centre for Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO), said the number of protesters has gradually dwindled but their occupation of government buildings has yet to stop.

Protest leaders at the Democracy Monument announced that they plan to occupy three government complexes today, but would not disclose the locations.

Pol Gen Adul said police would not give up negotiating with the protesters to leave government property after the Civil Court refused to empower the police to remove them.

Police requested the Civil Court’s permission to force protesters from government buildings only to be turned down. The court reasoned that police have the power under the government-declared Internal Security Act.

He said the arrest of key protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban, following an arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court Tuesday, would be made after the political tension unfolds.

CAPO spokesman Piya Uthayo said protesters blocked the entrances of several state buildings including the Energy Ministry, Information and Communication Technology Ministry, Administrative Court, Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Social Development and Human Security Ministry.

In the provinces, protesters carried on their rallies at town halls in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani, Chumphon, Pang-nga, Phuket, Ranong and Krabi.

Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said the Consular Affairs Department on Chaeng Wattana Road was blocked, affecting passport issuance.

He said there was a blackout at the department after protesters cut electricity at the nearby DSI building. (MCOT online news)

Let's see Adul. Weekend is coming up.

Exactly. Most anti-govt protestors have regular jobs that require them Mon-Fri. They are not farmers who can just leave for weeks at a time outside of planting/harvest season.

Exactly. Imagine how many there would be if those who work during the day could get time off?

My friends and collegues can only go when they can. Often on one day it will be different people to the next.

It's not the same static group as the Red Shirts who just camped there.

The real numbers of current anti-govt protesters/supporters are much higher than the numbers you see on any one day in the street. Much, much higher.

Just stop paying all state employees who are complicit it might be a good start. It seems that Thai Inter employees have gotten two days off the job to ruin their own tourist driven business a bit more by allowing them to demonstrate. it shows how deep stupidity have been rooted there.

Taking that from a purely business decision - the thinking could just a likely be that by allowing them the time off:

- They won't throw a sickie, so is easier to cater for.

- It may speed up the process and be over all the quicker - it is prolonged demonstrations that hurt tourism, not the result.

- It adds to morale

- It also gives Reds change to show their support

- It keeps arguments out of the office

- Two days given may save weeks of irregular worker attendance - get it over and done with

- and several more...

At least one of my neighbours is very dedicated to the cause. Listening all day speeches on front of TV and blowing a whistle once in a while! w00t.gif.pagespeed.ce.fUUOmDCInI.gifclap2.gif.pagespeed.ce.z5euFoXm0J.gif

In the meantime, while they are waiting for that to happen......

Guess that's ok, at least your neighbour won't vote for the PTP next time around - so add him / her to the total number of protesters.

In a company that I used to work for, the Service Director had a reputation for the harsh treatment of his staff. One day, after he had rounded them all up and given them a severe lecture, I said to him.....

"Jeff, you do know that you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar"

His reply........

"If you pull their wings off, they have to eat what you give them"

These Thai people have just discovered they have a voice, and a voice that could possibly make a difference this time around, and you're suggesting threatening them in to silence.

The thirst for freedom and equality cannot be quenched by the flames of tyranny. The outsider who assumes the position of judge, runs the risk of being judged himself.
