The elections were postponed due to the war as it might be difficult to hold a vote in Crimea and eastern Ukraine. As far as I know the postponement was carried out under the terms of the Ukraine constitution. Britain postponed elections during WW11and local elections were moved during Covid. It's not that unusual. -

The incident occurred at Chumchon Ton Do, Chok Saman 5 Road, in the Hat Yai Municipality. Thanks to the swift actions of local residents, an elderly woman and a child trapped inside one of the homes were safely rescued. The Hat Yai Municipality’s emergency services were alerted at 11:40 via the Kun Chorn hotline. Firefighters and police officers from Hat Yai Police Station quickly responded to the scene, working for over an hour to bring the fire under control. The affected homes were numbered 709, 711, and 713, with house number 711 suffering the most severe damage, particularly its mezzanine floor, which was completely destroyed. Residents in the area rushed to assist, helping the elderly woman and child escape while salvaging some belongings, including clothing and a television. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Following the incident, Hat Yai Mayor Pol. Lt. Gen. Sakorn Thongmuni visited the scene to offer support to the affected homeowners. According to local accounts, neighbours heard a loud noise before noticing smoke coming from house number 711. They immediately sprang into action, ensuring the safety of the residents before emergency services arrived. The houses are home to multiple occupants, but during the day, only the elderly and young children remain while others are at work. Picture from responders. A staff shuttle van crashed into the rear of a 10-wheeler lorry in Lopburi, leaving the driver dead at the scene and seven passengers injured. Authorities suspect the crash was caused by the van driver falling asleep at the wheel, as no skid marks were found at the site. The accident occurred on Highway 21 (Saraburi-Lom Sak) at kilometre marker 36/900 in Khok Salung Subdistrict, Phatthana Nikhom District, during the morning of 20 February. Police Lieutenant Kongsak Mukdamuang, an investigator from Khok Salung Police Station, received the report and immediately coordinated with emergency responders from Phatthana Nikhom Hospital and Ruamkatanyu Foundation. Upon arrival, rescue teams found a white Toyota van with severe front-end damage. The driver, identified as Mr Anupong, was killed on impact, his body trapped in the wreckage. Seven employees, both male and female, were injured, with some in critical condition, and were heard crying for help. Rescue personnel provided first aid before transporting the injured to hospital. Approximately 300 metres from the crash site, an Isuzu 10-wheeler lorry with a damaged rear was found parked on the roadside, its number plate having fallen off due to the impact. Preliminary investigations indicate that the lorry had been travelling in the left lane while the van, carrying employees to their morning shift, slammed into its rear. With no evidence of braking at the scene, police suspect the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Authorities have detained the lorry driver for questioning and will interview the injured passengers to determine the exact cause of the accident. -- 2025-02-21 -
