PM on rebuilding confidence on nation's economy

BANGKOK, 5 Dec 2013, (NNT) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has instructed all agencies related to the nation's economy to quickly formulate a strategy to rebuild investors’ and tourists' confidence for 2014.

Mr. Teerat Ratanasewe, Spokesman of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that international analysts are still confident on Thailand's economic stability and have yet to adjust the nation's confidence index ranking.

He said the issue was raised to a recent meeting between the Economic Policy Supervisory Working Group chaired by the Prime Minister and economic ministers and related government agencies. The meeting also heard a report by the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board that the ongoing political protests have diminished the consumer and business confidence indexes.

At the meeting, Mr. Somsak Phureesak, Minister of Tourism and Sports, expressed his concerns over the sensitivity of the Thai politics among the Japanese tourists. He strongly proposed that the Government urgently issue measures to stimulate the tourism market.

Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovijakchaikul informed that the Prime Minister has already assigned related agencies including him, to come up with stimulus strategies in order to urgently regain foreign confidence especially from those countries that have warned their citizens against visiting Thailand.

The Foreign Minister expects the stimulus measures would be announced within a month.

I love it. Yingluck gives think tank one month to design thailand saving package. Wow if it was that easy she could sell her expertese to the world. In reality Thailand is now acccepting the world is in a mess. The only honest comment was that close monitoring of US and China is essential. Short term survival depends on copying them or get left behind.

Long term survival means doing the opposite but how long can you bet against a collapsing megapower...

Starting to look like the government wants these protests so that they can use it as a scapegoat to blame everything they have done bad on. The economy was already bad due to piss poor fiscal management by the government that was too busy trying to help the fugitive to be bothered trying to do their real jobs. Yet more propaganda from the PT ( Please Thaksin ) regime of idiots

This is nothing - watch what happens at the next elections when PTP gets voted out and the Democrats start cutting spending - Thailand's economy will crash and you can bet 90% of the population will blame the Democrats and we'll have the red shirts back in the streets begging for Thaksin's return to save the economy. You call that a regime of idiots? Thaksin has managed to milk Thailand dry and at the end of the day he'll be seen as a hero.

Teerat Rattanasevi, a government spokesman, said economy-related agencies were assigned to work out measures to stimulate the country’s economy in the remaining month of the year.

So up to this point December 5 they have had no pans for economic stimulation for next year.

The new measures should be announced in a month to ensure economic expansion next year while proposals from the public and private sectors will be taken into consideration in eliminating obstructions, he said.

If these "New measures" are only going to be announced neat month how will they effect "The remaining month of the year" ?

The premier reportedly told the meeting to strengthen confidence among domestic and international investors, boost employment in the private sector, promote essential industries and find measures to avoid a delay of the government’s Bt2 trillion investment plans.

How do they plan to "boost employment in the private sector" when they tell us there is less than 1% unemployment ?

Avoid delays in the 2 Trillion investment plans ? These plans have been delayed by the shonkey and downright crooked way the Govt passed the bill meaning it is now before the Courts which are very likely to dump it and impose bans on those responsible for passing it.

but international credit rating agencies have not lowered Thailand’s credit so far.

"So far"

Sounds like its expected.

But now we have someone to blame for everything.

Its all Sutheps fault.

A cynic might think, that the government will be presenting their sketchy ill-planned infrastructure-plan & flood-control-plan as being the only hope, for avoiding a continued recession next year ? wink.png

But I myself feel confident, that a plethora of pork-barrel plans will rapidly emerge, all using this excuse to justify their immediate oversight-lite approval !

It's raining money chaps, bring your troughs bowls, and a big appetite ! 'Oink oink' (or 'oot oot'), as This is Amazing Thailand ! laugh.png
