1) Democracy Party which entered the stadium at 3 am

I don't understand this one. Aren't they boycotting the election?

Just goes to show how full of it they really are.

The Democracy Party is not the Democrat Party.

On Sunday, Ms Yingluck told reporters that elections must take place, and urged protesters to express their views at the ballot box.

She said: "If we don't hold on to the democratic system, what should we hold on to?"

"If you don't accept this government, please accept the system," Ms Yingluck added.

Her skin so thick.

Didn't she understand that the "People" don't want the current system which is "Created by Thaksin for Thaksin" to ensure Thaksin wins every time.

The "People" want to changeit to a 100% fair and 100% corruption free system thought up by the "People" as presented by our Supreme Secretary General Suthep.

This new system will select good clean fair people from ALL walks of life, including but not limited to: Professors, Doctors, Lawyer, CEO, Businessmen, Investors, Judges, Actors, Homemakers, etc.

Thai protesters step up campaign to disrupt elections
by Anusak KONGLANG

BANGKOK, December 23, 2013 (AFP) - Thai opposition protesters on Monday stepped up their campaign to disrupt upcoming elections, trying to block candidate registrations as part of efforts to banish Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her family from politics.

The main opposition Democrat Party, which has not won an elected majority in parliament in about two decades, has vowed to boycott the February 2 polls called by Yingluck following weeks of street rallies by her opponents.

It is the latest chapter in a years-old political crisis which broadly pits a Bangkok-based elite against mostly rural and poor supporters of Yingluck and her brother Thaksin Shinawatra, a divisive former premier who was ousted in a coup in 2006.

At least 150,000 people joined the latest anti-Thaksin mass protest in the capital on Sunday, according to an estimate from National Security Council chief Paradorn Pattanatabut. Organisers said the turnout was much higher.

Hundreds of demonstrators on Monday surrounded a stadium in Bangkok where representatives of political parties were trying to register to run in the polls ahead of the December 27 deadline.

Nine parties managed to enter although officials were unable to fully complete their registration, Election Commission official Somchai Srisutthiyakorn said at a news conference.

He said about two dozen parties filed complaints with the police because they were prevented from entering.

Representatives of Yingluck's Puea Thai party managed to get inside the stadium in the early morning before it was sealed off by protesters, party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said.

He said Yingluck was on top of the party's list of candidates -- a position that would usually make her Puea Thai's pick for prime minister if it wins the polls.

Her candidacy is certain to anger the demonstrators, who want to rid Thai politics of the influence of her brother Thaksin -- a billionaire tycoon turned premier whom protesters accuse of controlling the government from his home in Dubai.

The demonstrators' self-proclaimed People's Democratic Reform Committee is calling for an unelected "people's council" to be installed to oversee sweeping but loosely-defined reforms before new elections in around a year to 18 months.

They have vowed to rid Thailand of the "Thaksin regime" and oppose the election, saying it will only bring another government allied to the former premier, who fled the country in 2008 to avoid jail for a corruption conviction he contends is politically motivated.

The protesters have appealed for the support of the army, but the military has indicated it will not step in directly at this stage, in a country which has seen 18 successful or attempted coups since 1932.

Thaksin is adored among rural communities and the working class, particularly in the north and northeast. But the billionaire tycoon-turned-politician is reviled by the elite, who see him as corrupt and a threat to the revered monarchy.

Pro-Thaksin parties have won every election since 2001 and Thailand has seen several bouts of political turmoil since he was deposed, with rival protests sometimes resulting in bloody unrest.

On Saturday members of the opposition Democrat Party -- who earlier resigned as MPs en masse to join the street demonstrations -- voted against participating in the poll.

The Democrats previously boycotted elections in 2006, helping to create the political uncertainty which heralded a military coup that ousted Thaksin.

The party last took power in 2008 by parliamentary vote after a court stripped Thaksin's allies of power, angering his "Red Shirt" supporters who launched mass street protests three years ago that ended in a military crackdown that left dozens dead.

Democrat leader and former premier Abhisit Vejjajiva has been indicted for murder over the crackdown along with his ex-deputy Suthep Thaugsuban who is leading the street protests.

Protesters bar registration of party-list election candidates
By Digital Content

13877706664162.jpg

BANGKOK, Dec 23 -- Thailand's national Election Commission (EC) could not begin registration of candidates contesting the February 2 general election today because anti-government protesters rallied at the application venue in Bangkok, interfering with access to the site.

Protesters of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) blocked the entrance of the Thai-Japanese sports stadium, the venue for the registration of party-list election candidates.

The gates were chained and locked with keys to prevent any representatives from political parties to enter the premises.

Party-listed candidates for the February 2 elections are required to submit their applications in Bangkok between today and Friday. Registration for constituency seats is set for December 28-January 1, while provincial candidates can register in their respective provinces.

The EC later unofficially announced that 34 political parties were regarded as having submitted their party-list applications before 8:30 am.

That ruling means they are all eligible for lot drawing to distribute party-list numbers.

The EC added that nine parties entered the Thai-Japanese sports stadium to register their party-list candidates -- including Pheu Thai, Chart Thai and Chart Thai Pattana and the rest -- registered their intention to contest in the party-list election with the Din Daeng police station.

The Pheu Thai party list of candidates shows Yingluck Shinawatra, followed by former premier Somchai Wongsawat, Charupong Ruangsuwan, Surapong Tovichakchaikul, Chaikasem Nitisiri, Chalerm Yubamrung, Sanoh Thienthong, Pracha Prommog, Pongthep Thepkanjana, and Plodprasop Suraswadi.

Puchong Nutrawong, EC secretary general, said that there would be no drawing number process today for fair treatment among parties who were unable to enter the stadium.

He could not confirm that the venue would be changed to Queen Sirikit Convention Centre. (MCOT online news)

This thread has been open for more than 2 hours now, wonder where are all the Suthep supporters among the members?? The same posters who yesterday had more than 5000 (using the same method of counting, as the supporters used counting protesters yesterday) posts defending their master!!

Waiting to hear that preventing ordinary people from voting is the only way towards true democracy!!whistling.gif

So all you Suthep lovers out there: The forum is all yours!!coffee1.gif

smile.png they are currently holding a huddle meeting to come up with an excuse to justify the protestors blockade. 'Exercising democratic rights to prevent democracy from happening.' Or something like that wink.png

They have retreated to the top level of Nana Plaza to rustle up some rigid support.

The EC could always relocate the registration site to somewhere outside of Bangkok, say maybe north of Ayutthaya...

Seems like the logical thing to do. Yingluk has registered and can't wait until election day to see how they will block all the voting stations in red territory. The Democrats aren't competing so no need to target the booths in Bangkok. A few yellow shirts standing outside a booth in Chiangmai would be very brave indeed. Life expectancy about 2 minutes. Predicting a landslide for Yingluk and her party.

...and the police are not keeping the gates open and arresting anyone interfering with entry to register because?

Because this is exactly what the protesters want... It would create a wonderful opportunity to create a clash between the protesters and the police, which would allow Suthep to claim that the government used force against peaceful protesters (whose "upgraded" goal is now to topple democracy as a whole).

The government and the police are playing smart by keeping away from the protests...

Watched it on the Australia Network, same will increase the protests unless she steps down or is dead... Appears to be a direct threat and definitely stepping up the demands.

The guy has totally lost it and is out of control.

Actually this is a good point. Only someone as corrupt as Suthep can determine who is corrupt. He won't select any of his corrupt associates and go out and interview the public to find good clean people that are so foreign to him. At least there will be no politicians in this group.

Some of you just don't get it do you....The problem is the square faced fugitive Thaksin. Suthep wants the Shin regime ended. If Thaksin and his sister, his other sister, his brother in law etc. are all still where they are now, then it is another rigged election they can't lose and what is the point ? Thaksin's brown nosers have been banned for electoral fraud 3 times in the past and the entire government is made up of Thaksin's cronies who have lied and cheated for years to be where they are and would continue to do so in order to further inflate their bank balances at the expense of the rest of the Thai people. When Thaksin and the rest of the cronies are out, then there is a slim chance there may be a possibility of getting a fair election result...It isn't that Suthep doesn't want an election at all - he wants an election to be fair and not rigged by the Shin gang. There can never be a fair election when the Shin's are involved as demonstrated by the 3 electoral fraud bans of recent years...
