Defused: Ordnance experts survey the ‘bomb’.

PHUKET: -- Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers were called yesterday afternoon (December 25) to the entrance of Baan Laem Hin, just north of Phuket City.

The caller, Worapoj Pluksacheep, 20, told police he was sitting in a sala at the entrance with a friend when they noticed a bag tucked under one of the seats.

Fearing it might contain a bomb, he called the police.

The EOD officers spent 15 minutes gingerly checking and then opening the bag to reveal its contents about 10 kilos of kapi – shrimp paste.

Mr Worapoj was thanked for his alertness and civic-mindedness. The bag was taken to Muang Police Station to await collection by its owner who will, presumably, be rather embarrassed.

Hopefully, no sniffer dogs were not-harmed by the stench during the detection process. However, perhaps medals of bravery should be issued to those who continued to do their job despite being overcome by the rancid-smell. Be aware, that the offending shrimp paste is now destined to a Nam Phrik concoction near you !

April Fools comes early in Thailand I guess

This reminds me... does anyone know where to buy Shippam's Salmon and Shrimp paste?:

I doubt the owner is going to show up and collect. I would think it would get smelly pretty quickly. sick.gif

Get smelly??

Kapi couldn't possibly get any smellier than it is to start with.

If they detonated the shrimp paste it would have been like a 'dirty' bomb. Radioactive <deleted> everywhere
