BANGKOK: -- The Appeals Court yesterday upheld a death sentence for former Muang Ratchaburi municipal councillor Ananthasak Srisawat, 48, for his role in the May 2006 assassination of former Thai Rak Thai Ratchaburi MP Kobkul Nopobromdee.

The court also upheld the life sentences handed out by a lower court to two other convicts, Winyu Rattanawannee, 36, and Anon Panrat, 46, for their roles in the killing.

The three men were convicted of conspiring with a fourth suspect, now deceased, Sa-ngad Pumpeng, to take two loaded M16 rifles to Muang district's city area to kill Kobkul. Kobkul's driver, Chatri Suparanant, and Master Sergeant Third Class Saichol Kaewsaithong were wounded in the attack.

The primary court on March 31, 2011 handed a death sentence to each of the three convicted men, then reduced Winyu and Anon's sentences to life in prison due to their useful confessions. The court ordered the three to pay Chatri Bt300,000 compensation plus 7.5-per-year interest dating back to August 24, 2006.

Kobkul's widower, former deputy public health minister Manit Nopobromdee, said he was satisfied with the verdict, adding that he hadn't yet sued for compensation because he prioritised justice. He expressed hope that police would be able to find evidence to arrest those who reportedly hired the three convicts to kill his late wife, as the case was still alive under the statute of limitations.

Despite the convictions still no rest for the poor man. Who ordered the killing?

'One man, one vote', democracy doesn't exist where a bullet or bomb can kill the people's choice. Is political position so lucrative in Thailand that politicians so easily resort to murder to gain/ keep/ regain power? There sure is a lot of talk about democracy in Thailand but when you read how often politicians are intimidated, attacked, or killed, one has to wonder just how democratic this country is.

Hopefully soon we will see Suthep in the photo when he is given the death penalty for the 2010 killings and now the latest killings.

Your photo does you proud

Which one got the death sentence? The one with the reading glasses or the guy in the middle smiling?

I never seem to get my head around red logic.

If red protesters combined with black armed supporters burn a city and are far more violent as those now and deaths appear its the government that is to blame.

If anti government protesters who are in general less violent but have their own idiots too and a few deaths appear its not the government that is to blame but the demonstrators.

At least get your logic straight and either say 2010 was not the blame of the government or 2013 is also the blame of the government (the deaths ect).

You can't have it both ways.. though that is the way of many reds.

Then you'll agree that his nemesis over seas should be along side him?

And the master minds get away scot free once again,

the Police never want to go further in cases where they

get the hit men.if they catch the killers they must have

a very good idea who ordered the hit,but it ends there.

The one in the middle with the token Thai defense mechanism laugh.

I thought I would help you get your message out clearer to the world by posting this comment and a link to it on Suthep, the PDRC and Abhiait's official facebook pages.

How ludicrous.

She was a relative of my wife. The family believes they know, but the middle man 'poisoned himself', before police could get to him. It was believed to be a business conflict.

Love the kacket with "JAILER" on the back in English.

Who knows what may happen but even in the Thai justice system it is not possible to obtain a conviction for murder, unless there is evidence, as presumably there was in this case, that the accused deliberately planned to the cause the death of a certain individual. I doubt that even the accusers of Suthep or Abhisit have any hope of murder convictions for the 2010 deaths. The intention was merely to please the red shirts and put them under to pressure to agree to the Amnesty Bill or be tied up in legal proceedings for years, if they didn't agree. Politics is politics and should not be confused with justice.

These are the sort of questions that never get addressed in the land of smiles. The Elite are beyond reproach.

In 2010 the Government sent the tanks in to dislodge a huge crowd who thus far had done nothing but block traffic, if you can't see the difference between that and what happened today...rolleyes.gif

Then praise for the husband for not taking justice in his own hands...
