BANGKOK: -- Anti-government protesters kicked off their warm-up street marches to the capital’s western bank of the Chao Phraya river today to persuade Thonburi people to join the January 13 Occupy Bangkok rallies.

The street marches started at 9 a.m. from the Democracy Monument towards the Memorial Bridge to Thonburi , Siriraj hospital and back crossing Pinklao bridge to the monument in a 11-kilometer round marches. Leading the long march is the PDRC secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban.

The PDRC now preferred to redefine the “Shutdown Bangkok” protest to “Occupy Bangkok” because what they planned to do will not shut down everything but merely government offices and residence of the caretaker prime ministers and her caretaker cabinet ministers, while mass transport services such as electric train services, normal bus and train services, as well as airports will not be affected.

Suthep said last night seven main intersections will be occupied by protesters to hold anti-government activities to pressure the resignation of the caretaker prime minister,].

He also made clear on non-violent protests in the Occupy Bangkok rallies.

But he warned protesters of the red-shirt infiltrators who were ordered by their leaders to wear normal shirts and mingle with the protesters at the PDRC rallies with intent to create violence.

He then asked protesters to help watch out for these infiltrators who might carry guns and might torch government buildings and other officers to put the blame on protesters so as to justify suppression of the protesters by the government.

He asked all the protesters not to retaliate even they are assaulted and stick to the non-violent protest to achieve the more important target to reform the country.

Today’s warm-up march covers Ban Kaek intersection, Lat Ya, Wong Wian Yai, Issaraphab Road, Chinoros Temple, Prannok intersection, Siriraj Hospital, Arun Amarin intersection, Phra Pinklao Bridge, and ends at Ratchdamnoen Avenue, the main protest site.

Last night the PDRC leader said the Monday January 13 massive rally on Chaeng Wattana Road – one of the seven targeted locations – was aimed at sealing off the Government Complex. The demonstration there will be organised by people from Bangkok’s satellite provinces of Nonthaburi, Ratchaburi and Nakhon Pathom.

Another significant rally site will be Pathumwan intersection where the Democrat party-related Bluesky Channel will broadcast to other rally sites round the clock. The stage at Pathumwan will be manned by Chulalongkorn University staff and students, and former Democrat MP Satit Wongnongtaey.

Mr Suthep said he and PDRC members will move to various spots while government buildings and ministries will be blocked on Monday morning so that “government officials will no longer work for the Thaksin regime.”

“We will not stay overnight at any government property to prevent infiltration by outsiders – an experience we encountered when we occupied the Finance Ministry,” he said.

Other rally sites on Monday are Lat Phrao intersection, Victory Monument, Asoke intersection, Lumpini-Silom intersection and Ratchprasong intersection.

BANGKOK, Jan 9 – Anti-government protesters will hold a pre-Occupy Bangkok march in Thon Buri today to urge people to take to the streets to paralyse the capital on Monday.

Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary general of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), announced on stage at the Democracy Monument last night that he would cross the Puttayodfa Memorial Bridge to meet with residents in various communities in Thon Buri to create people’s awareness on Monday’s ‘Bangkok shutdown’ march.

His march today covers Ban Kaek intersection, Lat Ya, Wong Wian Yai, Issaraphab Road, Chinoros Temple, Prannok intersection, Siriraj Hospital, Arun Amarin intersection, Phra Pinklao Bridge, and ends at Ratchdamnoen Avenue, the main protest site.

Mr Suthep said the Monday’s massive rally on Chaeng Wattana Road – one of the seven targeted locations – was aimed at sealing off the Government Complex. The demonstration there will be organised by people from Bangkok’s satellite provinces of Nonthaburi, Ratchaburi and Nakhon Pathom.

I would prefer it to be called "Shut Up Suthep" if I were allowed to rename it.

Thank you Suthep to start civil war soon, can really nobody stop this crazy guy. Today we know where it begins, but we don't know where this will end.

What? No shots of massive crowds stretching as far as photoshop will take them? No claims of umpteen million marching the streets? Looks a pretty poor turnout for our Dear Leader, maybe the mums were afraid of their babies getting another slap from Thailand's own Kim Il Jong!wink.png

Every time he opens his mouth now he is trying to incite violence both directly and indirectly. Just imagine the paranoia he is stirring up among the remaining diehards with his reds under the beds tactic.

Stop him, please!

The rallies and attempted shutdown will not cause any damage to the government since the government wont be working from these offices on monday! They will be prepared and doing business from other places outside the protest zone. They are not foola to just sit there and wait for people to kick their doors. Only bloodshed will make things happen like forcing the army to intervene!

He is putting on a lot of miles. He is also putting himself in harms way. There are always crazies with guns out there. It's easy to put somebody down, from behind the safety of the keyboard.

This is truly fascism in action. They cannot get elected, but they have harnessed the money of the super-rich to maintain rent-a-mob - it wouldn't be a surprise to see them kitted out in brown shirts or similar. They seek to close parliament, seemingly 'until further notice'. They want to have a 'Grand Council' to run the country in any way that they determine. They have Nuremburg-style rallies to ram home the same idealogy time and again, so that through repetition it becomes the norm. All they need now is a scapegoat community to 'blame' for everything - step forward Isaaners!

Don't worry, there will be lots of people there, on the 13th. I don't expect big numbers for these long marches. How many Thai people, do you personally know, who like to walk for many miles, in one day, while having whistles blown in their ears and a chance of having grenades thrown at them or being hit by a sniper?

The Thai people, I know, might put up with the grenades, noise and snipers, but they sure as hell ain't gonna' walk a long distance. wink.pngwai2.gif

You cannot walk in Bangkok. Foot pathes broken, blocked or non existant.

You can only walk when you occupy the roads. Maybe that's the whole secret?

On a personal level, for a 64 year old man to do this much walking is admirable.

In the UK he'd be going 'hill walking'.

Out drumming up victims.

He is fully aware of the absolute certainty of violence breaking out.

I doubt you'll see many mom and pop whistle blowers this time around, but crazed students and thugs will abound.

As usual.

All mouth no trousers.

Put up or shut up.

Lets see some action.

The rhetoric is so boring, and doesn't make good viewing on the television.

Thai wife can home very upset today

Her sister Thai husband has been offered to join a group of taxi drivers and mingle with the protestors on shut down day

they are being paid to cause as much trouble as they can, and if caught say they where put up to it by the demonstrating leaders

This is third hand info, so not sure how correct the info is, but make sense that Yingluck has already pre-warned that she knows third party people will cause problems

is it a case she knows because it is part of her plan

now I wait for all the deniers, who still do not believe the red shirts cause arson in the last protest

Nonsense.

They may not be true to democracy as we in the West understand it. (And most of our Western democracies went through hellish class struggles to get to one man one vote, non corrupt, democracies). Remember the First World War was the real impetus for social change throughout what were then the colonial imperial super powers.

But, this continual comparison to Nazis is ridiculous. Have you watched the videos of the Nuremburg rallies, read Mein Kampt, seen how the Nazis were organized and their manifestos? Nothing like this. If you want to compare to the right wing of that time then Franco would be closest. But, you might as well compare Thaksin to the Eastern bloc communist leaders - they all used to pretend to be elected and represent the people whilst running the country for their own benefit.

Thai politics is uniquely Thai. Use of Western political models from the first half of the last century to facilitate understanding better seems somewhat inadequate.

How in the hell can they have photos of it before it has even started ? Do you have a magic camera that can see the future ?

The only ones using photoshop are the newspaper that altered and printed a 5 year old picture to try and frame the demonstrators...

And as I have said before a few times if you want Kim Jong Il, Thaksin is WAY closer than Suthep as he has the hero worshipping personality cult in the north east and has tried very hard to make a dictatorship over the last 10 years. THANK GOD the constitutional court and protests have stood in his way !!

Back under your bridge red troll...

He has warned people that others may try and be violent and told them NOT to be violent in retaliation - this is quite the opposite of inciting violence. He has told everyone to have phones ready and film everything for evidence, not to engage themselves in violent activities. With all the police that should be around that is there job, to protect the public. There is also a phone number to call in case of emergencies. Suthep is doing all he can to try and ensure it remains peaceful DESPITE what the government says and what all the haters on here and round the inter web may think. He doesn't want violence, he knows the peacefulness of most of the protests is one of its biggest assets.

PDRC? PCAD? Make up your mind, jeez!

Not PDRC or PCAD. He seems to be looking for this spelling for Suthep's group:

NAZI
