I am usually highly critical with/about local hospitals. But....once more Pattaya Memorial, which I prefer 100% over the BIG ONE, if there is no major trauma, has provided fast, competent emergency service in a rather complicated case. From ambulance pick-up to laying stabilized and much better in ICU we have received competent, friendly and rather fast action and service in every department.

These, despite 2 dozen Russians with bike accidents of misc. severity lined up early morning already and waiting rooms full, incl. all beds in emergency room occupied.

I want to include everybody, also the 2nd. fl. admin office. Friendly, helpful and totally uncomplicated. Roses today for MEMORIAL. THANK YOU!! MS>

True, their prices are now very close to BPH. But usually they do not exploit a patient's situation by prescribing unneeded tests and extending ICU stays forever.

A lot also depends which Dr. is attending initially. It really seems that due to their very busy ER and regular schedule, they got a system in place that works. I was a bit shocked when I saw the crowds, but realized fast that everything was handled surprisingly smoothly and organized. I try to force myself to weigh and enjoy the few good experiences after many, many years of living here and observing more and more deterioration. Have a nice day. MS>

Hopefully not! Moonseekers comparison to BPH prices was probably a little far fetched but to imply that their prices are less than 10% of BPH's of the basis of one cherry-picked example is similarly short-sighted. I had an operation for a hernia at PMH not that long ago for an all in price of around 38000 Baht but seem to remember from a recent thread that the cost is now in the region of 80k. Once again only one example, but a reasonable indication of the escalation in prices at this hospital.

This city does not need yet another high priced rip-off hospital, what it had was something that provided a decent level of service at a decent price, somewhere between that provided by Government hospitals at one end of the scale and BPH at the other.

I can confirm the OP's experiences. I was at the big place a few years ago. The physician gave a diagnosis that I knew to be wrong - he claimed I had STD. But who argues with the expert? So I swallowed the antibiotics and nothing changed. Then he sent me to a colleague and he gave me another diagnosis. Nothing changed and the pain remained.

So I went to the memorial and the physician told me to come back when their specialist would be in (in the evening). The man immediately understood the problem and gave me a diagnosis. The result was that the two doctors in the big place had caused me strong pain and worsened the problem through their examinations. I cannot be sure that they played a game but it was an obvious and age related issue that just needed some time to take of itself. On a visit to Europe I had a checkup and the diagnosis of the Memorial specialist was 100% confirmed. I wasted several thousand baht on the big place and got useless antibiotics for a condition that had nothing to do with bacteria (concussion). I also got a suggestion to undergo surgery without having performed the necessary checkup that should be the base of any such suggestion. Plus they caused intense pain. Ahh, I should add, they played the cancer scare game as well. The Memorial doc just laughed at the story and made a comment that summed up the other place. No need to add it here.

I never entered that big place again.

The memorial is a bit sub-standard in many regards but for simple stuff it is ok and those old docs have seen a lot of patients in their lives and have experience. PLUS they seem not to be under any obligation to milk their customers until their broke. In fact, they use the cheaper alternatives if possible.

Back in Europe we had different prices for different sorts of ambulance also, and the fancy ones with all the gear did indeed cost a fortune but they were equipped to do a lot of things that the cheaper ambulances (really glorified taxis with beds) could never do.

Last month the fee to see a doctor was 400 THB at Memorial. This month it is 800 THB. Their prices are definitely going up.

I can now summarize the experience @ Pattaya Memorial, with the patient ready to be released and brought back to his home-country tomorrow. He stayed in the ICU for the entire time with daily small improvements.

I do have lots of hospital experience here in Pattaya in all hospitals during over 18 yrs., with many serious and less serious cases.

This is the best, fairest, friendliest and most professional patient treatment I have ever witnessed in this country. It might help that I actively support hospital staff and and return friendliness the same way.

Watching Aussie hospital reality shows, which always impress me with their friendly and personal care, I would put this Memorial experience at the same level. I must add, this was not a big trauma case, for which Memorial is not suitable, but nevertheless a very serious and quite complex situation which could have ended rather fast, if not treated properly from the first moment.

Wow, the prices for ambulance service must have increased dramatically at BHP. A year and a half ago I passed out at a restaurant and was taken to BHP by emergency ambulance. Everything was state of the art, 2 EMT's, driver and an assistant. Spent the night. The ambulance charge was 1,000 baht.

Yesterday, I took a friend to BHP emergency. After initial screening, he was spent to a specialist (neurologist), full battery of blood tests, EKG, drugs. Costs was 4200 baht. Dirt cheap in my estimation.

600 for neurologist, 450 for EKG, 2830 for blood work, 60 for medicine, various administration charges and medical supplies make up the difference. I signed up for their end of year special;EKG, blood work, xray, doctor visit, vital signs, etc. Costs: 3000 baht.

Just picked up the patient with his son. He was given a fresh bath, clean shaven, helped to dress, served lunch. All medications, final Dr. reports, DVD with scans, copies of all lab works and procedures & tests attached ready and were explained once more by head-nurse.... Invoices were ready @ admin, not once have we been pushed to come pay early. VERY impressed, made me change my mind about prior experiences in several hospitals for once.. MS>

What's your native language? Seems pretty straight forward. He's praising the Hospital for the way they handled a situation. I've seen far worse on here. And why would say you're sure you'd agree if you could understand it. That's strange and less understandable that what the OP wrote.

AFAIK, some kind of mix, private, but for Thais (Pattaya citizen?) it also works as a public hospital.

If you have a good health insurance you should choose the best treatment . It's about your health.

I had my own experiences with the Memorial Hospital. I died almost there because they had no clue what to do. Then they transferred me to the BPH. They did a CRT and the problem was located. Finally, BPH saved my live. I stayed one week, and the costs were about 700k Baht. Covered by my insurance.

I don't recall English being stricken from the signs but for sure, Russian has been added along with several translators to tell the Doctors/Nurses what a Russian speaker is saying. There remains confusion sometimes(at least what I witnessed) going from Russian to English/Thai.

It's a private hospital and quit taking Thai Social insurance several years ago. This is why you don't see as many Thai's in the waiting area.

Rumor(on here) has it the new hospital on Soi Bouikow will start taking the Social insurance and fill up with Thai people. One wonders how this will work but time will tell us. Drunken farangs with STD's and Thai people on Social insurance?
