More Truemove-H data shenanigans

Featured Replies

Background...

I have no option for fixed line internet out here in the sticks, so I use Truemove-H with the 599baht 2GB bundle, which, if I go over 2GB and it slows down to 384kbps (or usually less), I can add-on another 1GB to get speed back to normal for a further 1GB. If I finished that one too, simply add another one.

In short - use up my FUP, drop to 384kbps, add a 1GB add-on, back to full speed, repeat as necessary. So far so good. This worked okay, until recently.

In the last couple of weeks, strange things started happening.

First, the connection would simply stop working. Can't open (e.g.) google.com in browser. Can ping it no problem, just no http traffic. This problem resolves itself if I reboot the MiFi not once, but twice. (It's not the MiFi that's the problem - same thing happens on my phone with a True-H chip in it, toggling airplane mode on and off, twice, gets back to a working data connection). That same problem has been discussed on here by others too.

So, that's the background... Now the latest problem.

I started a 500MB download but only had 400MB of a 1GB add-on left. No problem, I thought, it'll download 400MB pronto then finish the last 100MB at 384kbps. But no, when the 1GB finished it simply aborted and left me with the "connectivity but no data" problem mentioned above. It was a download from one of those damned filehosting sites so no resume... 400MB down the drain.

So, I add another 1GB add-on. Start the download again but it's dead slow. My MiFi tells me I'm still downloading at 384kbps. What's more, since I'd become suspicious I started checking - sent a "B" to 9789 every half hour or so to check my plan. What I found shocked me. It seems they're serving me data off my original bundle (at 384kbps since I'd gone over my 2GB) and that counter was going UP, BUT, the counter for my 1GB add-on was going DOWN at the same rate! In other words, they gave me 500MB @ 384kbps and added it to my bundle's data usage AND they deducted 500MB from my 1GB add-on bundle (which is supposed to be a high-speed bundle).

It would seem, that someone in Truemove has really screwed the pooch, with the subscriber management software at the switch...

If you also use this method and your speed's still crap after you've installed a 1GB add-on, now you know why... I have a strong suspicion that getting anyone at True to acknowledge and/or fix this issue is going to be a headache...
