Adsl Line / Cable

Featured Replies

I have adsl from TOT. Package is 512/256 for around 700 Baht/month with free router. So far connection is excellent, no problems except that the first router crapped out after a week. The Mrs got a replacement and since then everything has been fine. I think I am lucky in this respect; if you search the forum quite a few people seem to have had probs with TOT access.

Usual speeds from an online bandwidth test are around 390. Easy to access the configuration page (192.168.1.1) from both Linux (Slackware) and Windows. I did have to set the DHCP addresses manually as the router's DNS is a bit weird.

Only negative is that the router is not common (Hyundai Hase 270) and comes with zero documentation. I have been trying to set up the Linux machine as a wifi access point for the Windows machine but the lack of documentation is making it very hard. Also I have not had much luck getting file sharing running such as Azureus or BitTorrent, I have to manually enter a port to use but the router keeps forgetting it.

Over all I am pretty happy but YMMV

Hi there,

I live in Kamala and using same TOT ADSL with the same Hyundai router provided by them. Many issues with the router in general and some very annoying filtering rules randomly imposed by the ISP.

For web browsing, the connection is quite good but useless for any other dedicated professional activity due to the instability of the filtering rules.

Almost every 2 or 3 days i have to call and ask a tech guy to check if i have any filtering rules and always they're kindly excusing by telling "is for your own safety"... this kills me as i know tomorrow will be just the same. Too bad i am using a lot of "weird" ports in their opinion for various hardware and satlinks management...

If you want to make a good use of the ADSL line in Kamala is better to opt for a different router than the default Hyundai and state on the contract you do not want them to "take care" of your security, i am afraid you will never be able to change it afterwards :o
