renew passport at British Honorary Consul Phuket?

Featured Replies

can i renew my UK passport in phuket or do i need to go to BKK?

i sent them an email to ask but got no reply

thx

No you cant, they are all being done at the Hong Kong FCO now. I think you can do by post?

Contact the DHL office in Phuket. They have some sort of deal with the UK foreign office for handling passports being sent from Thailand to Hong Kong.

Although you send to Hong Kong, passport renewal applications are being processed in the uk along with mainland uk applications. Hong Kong send to uk. They charge an extra fee (£25.00 ish) to send out to you in Thailand, which I suppose is part of not having to in god forsaken country (uk). What I find totally unacceptable is they charge approx £128.. for 32 page page passport, but if you were in the uk, £74.00 !!!!!!!! Same process remember.

I am in dialogue with them at moment & already they have used 2 different reasons for their double charging discriminate actions. Thieving barstewards in my eyes

Not sure that you are right here eezergood, I am sure I read recently that Hong Kong are no longer involved and all renewals have to be sent direct to the UK.

Is it not possible to send the passport direct to the UK by DHL, and thus pay the same charges as a resident would.?.

If you send straight to uk, they expect old passport with the application & the correct exit stamps to be in it. You also have to bear in ind they would also lose the extra profit income for their service.

a lot of fast replies before 8am! the power of thaivisa

actually, i travel on my US passport, that's where my Thailand visas are. i just like to keep my UK passport valid in case i ever want to use it in the future.

i guess i could send it to my brother in the UK and have him send it in, sounds like it may be a cheaper option.

that seems the best option - saves the double pricing as well

Yes you apply to the passport Office in Liverpool but for some reason it is a lot more expensive than those applying while living in UK.

Costs £151 from here in Thailand.sad.png

Also you have to supply proof of your Thai address which for some is not easy.

I need to apply for one for my son. I know that won't be cheap, as I need to register him as my son to get Brit papers. Sigh

Same....... plus the Aussie one

Are there any reports whether DHL have a special deal/rate to the UK, as previously offered when the Hong Kong route.

You do not need special delivery to the uk as you are only sending application form & credit card permission. Send by EMS cheap & efficient. /CurrentOld passport stays with you in Thailand so if application goes missing then no real problem

Incorrect.

They must be sent direct to the UK

Get your brother to use the UK Post Office service for a small charge it save a lot of hassle.

As I said previously, I believe all passports have to be sent back to the UK by the holders, of course with complete documentation etc. However, as was the case with me in China, if you are in a country where you are supposed to carry your passport at all time, they allow you to hold the passport, but you must send copies of the actual details page.

The infuriating thing is that as soon as the passport office in the UK receive your renewal application, they immediately cancel that old passport, why they cannot do that the day they post your new one back to you is totally beyond me.

That would be too sensible for them too do whistling.gif

You need to hang on to your passport while your application is going through. This was the way when applying through Hong-Kong.

They also warned you not to use your old passport during the renewal process and that the old passport was for identification purposes only.

When I got my current passport using application to HK and and new passport issued in UK, it took exactly three weeks from door to door.

Would be interested to know how long it takes now. I fill a business passport every four years.

You will also need to know someone with a current passport who has known you and your son at least 2 years, who is not part of your immediate family and who is one of a certain class of people.

It is laid down on the website here I think.
