Election result will have to wait until Feb 23

1101-40246-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Election Commission will not announce the election result on February 2 but will wait for the result of the second round of advance voting scheduled on February 23, Mr Supachai Somcharoen, the commission chairman, said Friday.

The first advance voting took place on January 26 but protesters disrupted the voting in many polling units forcing election officials to call off the voting.

Mr Supachai said that if a petition was filed with the Constitution Court after February 2 asking for the election to be declared null and void, the EC would have to obey whatever the ruling of the court.

Mr Prawich Rattanapien, another election commission, reaffirmed the EC’s determination to try to thwart violence in case there is a confrontation between political rivals in front of polling units.

He disclosed that more police and officials had been deployed to some 90,000 polling units across the country to ensure peace and order.
