Never had a proper massage in my life, i fancy trying - any recomendations in Bangkok? not too pricey but not too cheap and nothing naughty please.....

The very first time I was in Bangkok - 7 years ago, my package tour took me to Wat Po where outside the School of Massage they demonstrated to our party the type of massage available. I too had never before had a "proper" massage but we didn't have the time then so the guide said you can book a massage at your hotel, which I did. I asked for a young lady and told them where and when to send her. At the said time the young lady arrived, not overly pretty but very pleasant and proceeded with the massage starting at my toes and working all the way up. I will emphasize "this was NOT a naughty massage" although at times I did get an erection! The girl did a first class massage for 2 hours and left me feeling very relaxed. It was by far the best massage I've had in all my time here and I wish I could find the same girl again. At that time the price was 400 baht per hour, not cheap but well worth it.

Prices vary quite a bit. I only go to places that are below 400 baht for 2 hours (not 400 baht each hour). I haven't found price to have anything to do with the quality of the massage (they are all equally good) and great facilities don't really do much when you spend the whole time in a small space with your eyes closed. Whatever you do, don't approach a taxi or tuk tuk and ask them to bring you to a place of their choosing. They are ready for such newbie requests and will make a beeline to the place where they get a cut and you'll be the one paying it. In those cases, don't be surprised when you show up and the price is 1000 baht or more, but if you walk in about 1/3rd of that. I consider wat pho overly expensive, hot, and complete lack of privacy. These are also apprentices; go elsewhere and you'll get seasoned wat pho veterans.

Probably just ask the hotel you are at where massage places walking distance are. They are just so easy to find in my experience by taking a walk. Tip: the price is higher on main roads so check out the small alleys for deals. There's got to be 10 within a block or so of where I am at ranging from 200 baht an hour to 600 baht per hour. Two words needed when getting a massage:

jep - that hurts

sub bye - feels good

If you don't want a naughty massage then don't go to Mermaid Massage on Sukhimvit Soi 11 and ask for a 2 hour special oil massage for 800 baht ++ from number 11 - Khun Poy... :o

Seriously though, the best Thai Massages I've ever had were as the Kanokvet Thai Massage studio in Ekkamai Road, Sukhumvit Soi 63, about 50 yards down from Sukhumvit on the left hand side... all professionally done by blind or sight-impaired masseurs and masseuses who have been trained at Wat Po.

Air conditioned, spotlessly clean, and 2 hours for only 300 baht.

You won't want to go anywhere else after experiencing one of their massages. Ask for number 2 or 11 if you're a guy, or number 11 if you're a gal. They do not do anything naughty and it's same-sex massage, so don't expect a member of the opposite sex to massage you.

Don't forget a tip when you leave. (I usually tip 100 baht, 'cos they are blind and need the money and the service is always excellent)
